going to see Roger Daltrey tonight in Times Square NYC.
Should be interesting to see half-the-Who.
Ive been wondering what songs he'll be singing,
he cant fill 2 hours with " Athena " or can he ?

Roger Daltrey has one of rock's most legendary voices' but he doesn't take it for granted. That's why the set of solo dates he'll be playing - beginning Oct. 10 in Vancouver - has been dubbed the Use It or Lose It Tour.

As lead singer for The Who, he's lent his Olympian pipes to a staggering array of enduring rock 'n' roll anthems. And with plans for the band's next tour still up in the air, Daltrey decided a solo jaunt - his first since 1985 - would be just the thing "to keep my voice in trim, so I'll be ready," he explains. "Those songs demand a lot of voice!"

Of course, the iconic singer's vocal regimen is just part of the equation. "I thought it'd be nice to play smaller, more intimate venues," he says. "I look forward to getting back to that. I want to give people a good night out. The economic situation being what it is these days, I think that's what they want: to go out and feel they've had a good jolly-up."

    I don't think you'll hear Athena!
I'd expect a mix of older Who stuff (he's doing stuff from Sell Out and Who's Next), solo songs, and other faves of his, like Johnny Cash. You can check the set lists from the other shows on the tour here:
    http://www.thewho.com/index.php?module=roger
Click on "Enter Review" to get the set list.

And if you meet a really enthusiastic Wholigan named Todd at the show, tell him Princess said hi!

  • Saw him a couple weeks ago. Great show! Music was awesome and he's pretty damn funny too. My favorites were Who Are You, Squeeze Box, and of course Baba O'Reilly

Enjoy the show. Still hoping he reschedules the Baltimore show he canceled a couple of weeks ago.

He's playing Blue, Red, and Grey?

That's interesting...I thought that was a tune with just Pete and a ukelele. Roger's a legend though, I'm sure he can put his own spin on it...

This could've been a question from Chris on "The Chris Farley Show":lol:

Roger was and still is a Rock and Roll iconic figure.
Seeing him up so close was really cool
and the sound system in that tiny Nokia Theatre was/is pretty good .
( I had already been to a show or two at this tiny theatre )

I cannot speak as kindly about the crowd.
What a bunch of rock and roll concert amateurs .
Youd think that the crowd ( The Who ) would be from an older generation-
and many of them were, but still amateurs nonetheless.
( People really should'nt drink so much at a concert-- but thats an entirely different thread )
General Admission on the floor only-
created lots and lots of people stumbling all over one another,
and in general just very selfish concert goers.

Roger had to tell the crowd on 5 different occasions to " Shut the fuck up " and " Why dont you come up here and give it a try " and " I can surely out-shout you mate " and then he actually told the crowd to stop smoking the weed.I couldnt believe my ears , he said at 65 , he was now " allergic " to the smoke and that if the crowd kept it up , it would shut down the show .,

My highlight was Roger covering Clearance Clearwater Revival / Fogerty .
( Born On The Bayou )
    I also enjoyed "The Real Me " , " Squeeze Box " , " Goin Mobile " .
I also enjoyed the " Johnny Cash Medley " .
Townsends brother Simon served the band well, and sounded remarkably like his brother .

Roger brought it that night, cant speak for his fans tho .

he spoke at length how this was always sung by Pete,
that he felt very funny onstage standing their with the uke,
and he said " Im gonna give it a whirl " .
It was done very well .

The truly ridiculous thing about that is hardcore fans know that Roger is very sensitive to smoke and how it affects his voice and wouldn't be caught dead smoking at one of his shows. :problem:
I'm not surprised you saw a lot of younger fans though. I continue to be amazed at the number of young people getting into The Who.

It was originally recorded for the album with the full band but then they decided to use the version with just Pete and the ukelele. Pete has said he doesn't really like to perform it live, as it was kind of personal song he wrote about his family life when his children were small. Which is a shame, I think, because it's a lovely song.

The setlist seems like it made up for the 'eh' crowd!! Wanted to go & really would have loved to be there but couldn't find anyone who was willing to go with me!

But I saw The Who last year, had amazing seats and the show freaking blew me away, so can't really complain :)

Cool! I love The Who so much...there's still a lot of inside info on them that I haven't discovered, so it's kind of exciting still. The Who By Numbers has become one of my favorite albums. I've been spinning an original vinyl for months now.

    RESCHEDULE IMPOSSIBLE
Roger Daltrey’s gig in Baltimore, which he had to cancel due to ill health, unfortunately cannot be rescheduled.

“Roger only has a short window at the end of the tour before he has to be back in the UK for work committiments and the venue is not available," says the singer’s management.

Uggghhh... thanks for the news. :( I've been checking The Who site every few days, but hadn't seen that yet.
