Permission to use a song in a public dance performance?

Anyone know how to request permission to use a PJ song for a Rock Ballet? The event is to be held in a church and will be open to the public. Free of charge.

One piece will be filmed and then presented at the event. Any help on how we would get permission to use their copyrighted material would be great!

    Philly 2 - 10/28/09 Philly 3 - 10/30/09
    Philly 4 - 10/31/09
    Boston 1 - 05/17/10
    PruCenter - 05/18/10
    MSG 1 - 05/20/10
    MSG 2 - 05/21/10

  • We would just like to be able to use the film again and again and don't want it infringe on their copyrights. The Dance company is a non-profit and would like to use the piece to teach psychology.
  • i'm curious, which song will it be?

So any idea on what that contact information is? I have searched and found 2 different telephone numbers and 2 addresses. I tried to call both numbers. One is a fax and the other has a strange message saying that my party cannot be reached.
  • I would e-mail Ten Club and they will probably give you the right contact info, or route the message to the right person.
Up here so high I start to shake, Up here so high the sky I scrape, I've no fear but for falling down, So look out below I am falling now, Falling down,...not staying down, Could’ve held me up, rather tear me down, Drown in the river

Thanks! I'll give that a try.

For the older material, permission may need to be granted from Sony since I believe they technically own the older music. But I think Curtis Mangament in Seattle is the best first step, or CALLING the Ten Club.

  • I thought that PJ got their masters back when they left Sony? I thought it was a condition of their contract in the first place.

I didn't hear about that... but getting your masters, and the copyrights to the music on the masters are two separate things.
