One thing I dont get about Lost

What I dont get is, that alot of the survivors knew one another, or knew some of the hostiles, or whatnot, met them before they crashed. Yet, when they meet on the island, they never seem to be conscious of this fact. For instance, Jack meeting Ana Lucia at that bar at the airport, wasnt it? And then didnt Jack meet Desmond, while they were both exercising? There are more of these, but cant think of any more at the moment.
My question is, why do the characters never talk about this? We only see this through the flashbacks. Desmond and jack, when they met in the hatch for the first time, Desmond didnt say "I remember you, brother"

I think they did recognize each other. Maybe not at that moment.
Hail, Hail!!!
It was dark, many years ago and in the rain. If I met Megan friggin Fox under those circumstances and then popped in Transformers I wouldn't jump up and say, "Hey, that chick totally taped my ankle!!!"
I hear ya. But that doesnt really work with the Ana Lucia/jack meeting at the airport bar. They shared a drink, and talked for awhile.
One could I guess say, the trama of the plane crash and all that caused them to forget, but still..
Usually if you do meet someone once, then see them again, you have that feeling that you met them, but cant place them. Its that funny feeling. Jack or Desmond or Ana Lucia never even said anything like "you look familiar"
They did recognize each other right away. So did Desmond/Jack. Others were connected but no directly.

It's pretty obvious that Jack recognizes Desmond immediately when he first sees him down in the hatch. As for why they don't talk about it at that moment, Desmond has a gun pointed at Locke's head and then goes crazy over the computer shit. Later out in the jungle, Desmond brings it all up and actually does say, "I remeber you."

I'm pretty sure Jack recognizes Ana Lucia too. But considering the fact they had met 48 days prior in an airport bar, all the shit Jack had been going through with his father at the time, the plane crashing and, on top of it all, Ana Lucia killing a member of the survivors and having another tied to a tree, I think Jack was concerned with other things.
lol..that's true.
I can't wait for it to come back on. I'm guessing it will come back in January?
I'm thinking about it now and I think there was an episode that showed Richard was off island when the flight crashed. We first see Richard in season 3 and that's around the time the others want Locke to be their leader. It could be because Richard remembered Locke telling him in the 50s that he would be the leader and now that Richard was back on the island he tried to make it happen. Does any of this make any sense?

i know what you mean, but this isnt some regular tv sitcom. Lost is arguably the most complex and comprehensive and challenging tv show of our generation. 5 seasons in and as you can tell by that one posters response, that many people dont understand the show at all. Familiarity between characters may seem a trivial point, but this is Lost we are talking about. This show has consistently been written in a almost David Lynch type style, where the viewer is left to judge about what is going on, at every single point. The flashbacks, the flashforwards, the non linear way the episodes are told, and the fact that little is every explained about anything, make me think this wasnt something the writers just forgot to add!
Richard is kind of an ambiguous character, since he's been around for so long, he never ages, he's been the leader, now he isn't but he doesn't seem to mind as far as I can tell. His relationship with Jacob is what sets him apart. Since we're going into the last season that means we're going to have to learn about Richard at last. I think when they flashed back to the 50s Juliet told Locke that Richard had "always" been there. I honestly don't know what to think about Richard and what his story must be but something tells me it's going to be a good one.
BTW everybody, if you haven't noticed a thread for Season 6 has been started: http://forums.pearljam.com/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=118329
This is just a case of you not paying attention again. As many have already stated, Desmond and Jack clearly did acknowledge their prior meeting..
