BMI or ASCAP ?

I'm in the process of writing/recording a solo record. I've recorded a few CD's before but never as intense and serious as this time around. Regardless, I'm reasearching publishing & liscensing and wanted to see if anyone has personal experience with either BMI or ASCAP??

I actually interned at BMI years ago so I'm familiar with how they work but tend to like ASCAP's approach for new artists looking to join a bit more. Anyone affiliated with either? Or have their original music with either of them??

I believe there are no costs involved correct?

    All I recall from my music business courses in college is that one of them equally shares the wealth among the musicians equally, and the other pays musicians based on their music's actual income. ...but it's been about 14 years since I graduated, so I don't know if I'm remembering it correctly, or if things change.

    Having interned at BMI, you should know more than anyone! :D

    Have a look at SESAC.....if they like you, they may give you an advance.
