Them *Crooked* Vultures

edited February 2010 in Other Music
Figure they deserve a thread that's a bit more optimistic than their first. (Wanted to take the time to at least show them enough respect to spell their name right..)

Just bought the album and it kicks ass!

Love seeing the living legend John Paul Jones getting back in the swing of things. This album also reassures everyone that Dave Grohl is a man behind a drum set.

Can't wait to see them live!

    Thanks for starting this thread!

I love this album, three of my musical heroes on one record! Whoever says John Paul Jones doesn't have any 'moments' on this album clearly hasn't listened to it properly. The man doesn't need a bass solo to shine!

I'm also blown away by how good it sounds.

Seeing them in a month's time I cannot wait!

Saw just them the two nights in a row... they only have the one CD, yet, mixed up the order to make it seem like two completely different shows. And seeing Dave Grohl in his domain... behind the kit... is something I think every fan of Rock music needs to see at least once in their lifetime. The shows were absolutely, one of the best rock shows you will see today. They stretch the songs out with some of the best, on the fly, jam sessions you will ever see/hear. Fucking Rock in every sense of the word... the CD does not pay justice to the live show.
I suggest that if you ever get the chance... do yourself a favor and GO.

  • yes it will be cool to see Dave on drums again. It's been 16 years since I saw that with Nirvana.

  • Having this album blasting in class, dave grohl is a very underratted drummer.

Bandolier is an amazing song, what a great way to start a record!

saw the wiltern show and I completely agree

Grohl seems to have absolutely NO ego. you wouldn't even think he was famous if you didn't know who he is.

    awesome.

i agree. grohl seems too be one of the coolest cats in Rn'R these days.

i see short clips of him here and there. like at the vh1 honors the who. and i think he would be so cool to hang out with.

  • So someone convince me to buy this record. I want to, but with all the hype and hearing nothing but really good things from EVERYONE I just kinda have that "too good to be true" feeling?

So it's living up to the hype?

Thanks to this board, I went to see B.B. King last night and had a great time. It was a two hour drive, but totally worth it......

Now I'm an hour plus away from Oakland and seriously considering picking up and going to see Them Crooked Vultures.

Think I want to go...... What do you all think? Great idea? Good idea? Bad idea? Don't do it?

well, i drove from dallas to austin which is a 3 1/2 hour drive to see them play stubb's. waited in line for six hours and stood against the rail in front of john paul jones. drove another 3 1/2 hours back to dallas after the show. i have no regrets.

Saw them at Roseland in the city last month-jaw dropping. Seeing Grohl on drums reminded me of animal from the muppets. And JPJ is the glue that holds it all together. Tough going to see ashow where you don't know the tunes but they did not disappoint. Bandoliers is my clear fav right now,

  • fucking a. i just heard about these guys about 2 weeks ago. got the album and its awesome and they already played shows in the NY area. grohl on drums? want to see.
  • Day three of Them Crooked Vultues, CD still rocks.
  • My wife was at a Barnes & Noble and she called me. I made her buy me a copy. It was funny to hear (while I was holding on the cell phone) her explain to the salesperson the name, and the sales person trying to find it. They finally found it. So I can't wait to get home. I think it will still be in it's wrapper.

That's what sucks these days. There are no more music stores. When I was young, there was Wherehouse, Virgin, Blockbuster (they did music back then), Tower, Sam Goody, plus all the locals. Now, at least where I live, buying a CD is an excursion. All these places are gone. And they're crying about sales? No outlets could be part of the problem.

  • I can't stop listening to the album since seeing them live.
  • a co-worker slid me a copy of this yesterday, I had never heard of it. Gotta be sure to give it a listen after the praise on here.

Agree completely! I was shocked that it was carried at Best Buy, and they didn't have many left Tuesday night.

Very sadly I will not make it tonight.

Just don't have it in me to drive in traffic to Oakland from Sacramento.

My friend was going to join me and he backed out, and then tickets are no longer available on TM and too much risk/hassle getting there without a ticket or using craigslist.

Hopefully they will be closer at some point. :(

So i started listening and reading along to the lyrics, and they are fucking sick!!! Mostly about psycho killers. I think "Interlude with Ludes" is my favorite psycho killer song ever!!!

i was impressed with the first three songs. especially when nobody loves me, and neither do i just goes insane, beginning with homme's "ugh!"

but then i feel like the album just kind of loses it. besides scumbag blues, caligulove, and gunman, i don't know where to go with this album.

i'm sure it'll grow on me though; it's starting to. gunman is so funky.

Beavis: Heh heh. Oh yeah. Yeah! Get those spoons out of my face before I shove them up your butt!
    Butthead: Huh huh.
