Okay I'm sure I'm not the first to notice this, or to make a thread about it, but there are so many referrals to the ocean in Pearl Jam songs I wondered if there was any significance to this.
Is it just a love of the ocean, is there a deeper meaning to it or is it just a bizzare consequence?
Answers on a postcard please, to the usual address...

I definitely appreciate the songs like Given to Fly and Against the Waves as they are incredible running songs. It's as if a runner's high is molded into the songs of waves.
The risk I took was calculated, but man, am I bad at math - The Mincing Mockingbird
earthly connections to our souls.
You know it
Yeah, I followed the turtle race at Conservation International, it was so cool that the Pearl Jam turtle won! Her name was Backspacer, and I didn't even know that was the name of their new album. doh
Ocean and water is such a powerful force and topic, I guess like the other elements, fire, air ...
I noticed my tendency to be drawn to the artists/musicians for whom the water theme runs strong through their work, maybe because it is so important and native to me as well.
Isn't music like the water?

'Always amongst the waves'
I love Eddie´s lyrics about waves and the ocean. His lyrics just fit perfectly.
Let the ocean dissolve away my past
Four days, and not much longer
Let my spirit pass
Yes, sound waves are like water waves. Riding water, riding sound, it´s kind of the same (have a look at a book called "Nada Brahma - The world is sound" and a movie called "Life like liquid").
What songs were on your playlist?
