Site freezing after a while

Hello
I don't know if anyone can help, it might be just our computer (or me :? ). But after I've been in the site a while, it starts to go incredibly slowly, I'm talking about 45mins.
I haven't searched for an answer, so there might be one out there already, but as It's going incredibly slowly right now it would probably take me about an hour to do so.
This is the situation;
What I tend to do is check my hotmail and then go into the site through there, after I've gone in and logged on I go to that thread, when I've been in that thread I click on the x in the corner, then go into the next message on hotmail and go back into the thread through that. When I've been in through each message in my hotmail I stay in the site from whatever the last thread was, then have a look about it. After a little while it almost grinds to a halt, taking absolutely ages to go back the board index, or post a reply, or turn a page or anything really. Also the artwork at the top and the bottom vanishes.
Now it could be the computer, although it recently had a new motherboard. It's connected to the router with a cable, it's not wireless as we found that, maybe due to this being an old house with thick walls, that the signal is unreliable. Our son often sends to be online a lot of the time as well (on his PS3), but it still grinds to a halt when he's not on it.
The only thing that helps is if I just log out (we all have a separate log in), go away for an hour or so then come back. The strange thing is that sometimes it doesn't happen, even though I've done exactly the same as before.
Does anyone have any ideas/suggestions??
P.s. it's ok to laugh if I've been doing something completely ridiculous that I shouldn't have :oops:
