Saw B.B. King last night

Monumental. Easily one of the greatest performances I've watched. The guy is a legend and sings/plays the blues like a master....because he is. I was moved from the minute I saw him walk on stage and sit in his chair. He interacts with the crowd more than he does perform, which didn't bother me at all. The whole time he speask his band is playing some low groove, which he called "talking music".
Lucille sounded sweet, his band is a group of cool, talented cats, and the guy just lays it down and opens up to his audience. His fans and him have a real relationship. Considering the PJ fanbase that I'm involved in, I definitely could appreciate it.
That man deserved the standing ovation he got. He is truly a legend, and at 84 he's still doing what he was born to do. I feel so grateful that my old man bought me the tickets for my birthday. I underestimated him when he told me that I was in for a "one of a kind show". So glad I got to see him before his time is up.
If you have the chance to see the King of the blues, do not pass it up. You will never regret it.
Oh yeah, and he talks about his experiences with Viagra. Funny shit.

Ya know, I'm not really sure. I knew who he was and had heard a small amount before last night, but now I'm a bigger fan. I don't own anything but the records that I got from my old man, but I've procrastinated spinning those
Maybe start with his early stuff to listen to his development? I think it's fair to say that "Thrill Is Gone" is his most popular. If your a U2 fan, you may recall he made an appearance on the Rattle and Hum album playing "When Love Comes To Town" which I believe is a B.B. King song.

As a big fan of B.B., I would highly recommend "Live at the Regal". B.B. really shines live, and this is perhaps his most legendary show, played at the Regal Theatre in Chicago in the 60's. Great crowd interaction, awesome horn section, and he just smokes on the guitar that night.
It's also a very, very good recording.

Having already seen him four times before bonnaroo, reading his autobiography and listening to his music all these years, it kind of choked me up at Bonnaroo when the county and city mayors presented him with the key to the city. He is such a humble man and he couldn't hide how much that meant to him. I remember calling my dad right after that and telling him about it.
A good starting place I would say would be to listen to something like LIve at the Regal but you should really get that and get the King of the Blues box set if its still available
They say every sin is deadly but I believe they may be wrong...I'm guilty of all seven and I don't feel too bad at all
The guy is old as dirt, but MY GOD he can play!!!
If you haven't been and are a fan or blues, you need to do it ASAP!

I'll be in Sacramento on business and am considering the 2 hour drive north to see him.
Tickets are $75.00 and there are only a few left.
I would have already pounced, but I'm fighting a cold and don't want to go too crazy until I heal.
What to do? :?:
I'd go for it...considering the chances of seeing him get slimmer by the year. Hope that insight helps you make a decision. Regardless, have a safe trip!

I agree Live at The Regal is a good place to start. Or just pick up one of the many best of compilations.
If you like BB's shows, you may want to check out a Buddy Guy show. Another living legend worth looking into. I took a friend to see him last spring and she was amazed at the show he put on.
Both give a little history of the blues with their shows, so it is educational as well as entertaining.
I saw BB King a few years ago on my birthday in Paducah, KY. I loved the show, but unfortunately I ate something that didn't agree with me before the show and had some issues.
I also saw Buddy Guy at the casino in Metropolis, IL two years ago (maybe three) I think. Was there only on a friend's recommendation and really enjoyed it. I subsequently got a few CD's, but have to admit I don't listen to them that much.
That sounds really cool. I'll have to try to see him if i can.

Thanks for the advice. I went last night and had a great time!
B.B. was totally awesome and funny as hell. Such a nice intimate theatre.
Willie Nelson's son's band opened and they are really talented.
So happy I went.
Cool, glad you went.
Ditto, Wilds...I'm sure the show was great. He's very entertaining isn't he? I felt like I made an accomplishment in seeing him. Glad you enjoyed it.

A lot of cool info and stories can be found on the net. I've been reading up all day. Here is a link to a paperback autobiography.

Awhile back, Rolling Stone did a 100 best guitar albums list, and Live at the Regal was obviously one of them, and I remember their write up on it was something like, "the only guitar album we can think of where every quarter-bend note induced screams from the crowd."
It really is a great album.
