  • They will replace it for free. They extended all warranties due to the issue. Nothing will stop it indefinitely. I'm on my fourth box. I finally got tired of sending them in and bought a 360 Elite. I use my "new" old one as a spare in a different room. I feel for you...especially with Modern Warfare 2 out right now.

Bite the bullet and send it in.
All the youtube tricks will just mess up your system and void the warranty. Sorry man. I had it happen a few months ago. If you send it in, you'll get it back in like two weeks and get a free month of xbox live.

I have experienced the Red Rings twice now. The first breakdown was covered by the 3 year warranty but the second one happened one month after the warranty had expired and cost me $100. To make matters worse, my PS3 disc reader stopped working two weeks later and was also one month past its 1 year warranty and cost me $150 to replace.

For your issue, go online or call Microsoft. They are fast about getting your system returned at least.

By the way, my original 8-bit Nintendo Entertainment System which I purchased in 1989 still works fine and has yet to be sent in to Nintendo for repair.

None of it is bullshit.. just type how many lights you got into google or the error code and then just go through all the tutorials. Obviously if it says throw your xbox out the window then its retarded but in all my experience with sorting xboxes out i have had no bs...

That's what the OP meant - the online 'advice' is pretty much useless.
You're right about the error codes, but 9 times out of 10 it's safe to assume it is the e74 or the RROD and I figure that's what Wolf meant.

I could probably go to my parents house and get mine to work as well and I haven't used it in about 3-4 years. They don't make them like they used to.
I'll ride the wave where it takes me.
  • Did you buy the fan for the xbox to attach in the back? That turned out to be the cause of my rings of death. Detach it and try again if you have it.

I have it occasionally still but if I unplug everything it starts up again without a problem.

  • My 8-bit Nintendo crapped out on me after 6 or 7 years. I had games that wouldn't work FFS. Remember blowing on them and pushing them down just-so? MY super-nintendo did fine, but my first playstation eventually died after having to play it turned upside down! Then there was the PS2 that liked to ignore certain games and needed to be cleaned a hundred times a week. But never have I seen a product fail so often for so many so soon in the video game world. If mine ever requires money to fix I'll be buying a PS3 instead of fixing it.

I've had bad luck with the PS3 too ;)

Even my Atari still works, but the 360 and PS3 I have gone through a few of each.
My fourth PS3 seems to have done the trick, and I bought the RE Elite 360 which hopefully solved that system's problems for a while.
