Rumor - The Who playing the Super Bowl
Just read on SI.com that The Who will be playing this year's Super Bowl... sounds pretty cool.
How long before PJ breaks out a half time show?

It's not something I'm dying to see happen, but it would be cool for the band to come out and blow people out of their living rooms with a really blistering set (or 10 minutes at least)... kinda let the rest of the world in on the magic that is Pearl Jam live.
Problem is the 4-5 songs would be Evenflow, Alive, Betterman, Last Kiss, and The Fixer.

Don't think of it as selling out. Think of it as an acknowledgement that they are prominent enough to get the recognition.
Yeah... Linkin Park would be so rad
Oh yeah. I keep forgetting that people still care about this.

2. Pearl Jam deserves better than stooping down to the Super Bowl. Until "Nipplegate" a few years ago, it used to be all pop/crap bands. Only after that did they start getting real musicians to play again since boobs wouldn't pop out that way.

Playing in front of a billion people isn't exactly stooping. What a strange thread.

Usually whomever is playing has recently or is going to be releasing an album shortly after the superbowl.
That said I LOOVE The Who so I'd be ALL OVER that halftime!
The Foo's just released an album but I think Dave is still touring with Them Crooked Vultures so dunno about Foo's getting together for the Superbowl. i'd LOOOVE that too tho!
Can't see PJ doing it any time soon, but now that they are doing their albums and promo themselves I can see them one day doing the Half Time show.
i hate to say it, but enough with the old bands.
wait superbwl halftimes always suck. i dont care.
You have nice eyes.
No chance in hell Pearl Jam every plays the super bowl. I guarantee they will absolutely never play a half time show. This is totally absurd to even think this is possible.
probably next year.
But, I guess it works for the Super Bowl... Pete and Roger playing 5 old Who songs.
...
Personally, I hope Pearl Jam never plays the Super Bowl halftime... sure, U2, Springsteen, Tom Petty have... but still... just something 'not right' with that. Aerosmith, Bon Jovi... yeah... Pearl Jam, not so much.
I guess it's from the Super Bowl Halftime being invented for the ladies and the non-football fans while the guys went to the can then out to the driveway to shoot some hoops or out to the street to shoot the pill around.
Hail, Hail!!!
I saw The Who on their 25th anniversary tour in '89 and then when they did Quadrophenia in '96 and I can't imagine them without John.
Why am I writing this? Not sure.

I was talking about this to my husband last night after initially reading this thread. Can Pete and Roger really call themselves the Who with half the band, and not just half the band, but a very important half is now missing from what made them so magic in the first place. I totally agree with you, Entwistle can hardly be duplicated (although Jeff Ament does a great job with the Real Me). I don't know how I feel about those two going out and saying they're going to play as The Who. How about just Townsend and Daltry? Now that's more like it.
Thanks!
I would be absolutely pumped if PJ were announced as the halftime show.
I'd have started a thread on it but sheesh! I don't want to start every Who thread!
ya i know.....why would the super bowl want pearl jam when they can have bon jovi
