So I was asked by a classmate of mine in a short interviewe to describe Pearl Jam's music. The question threw me off, I've never been asked that before. I ended going with the combiniation of hard rock with pure emotion. I said thtey have the perfect ability to mix complete rocking tracks with "ballads". I regret using that word, but I couldn't think of another word to describe songs like Black, or Given to Fly.

So my question is this, how would you guys describe Pearl Jam's music

"Ballads" is a horrible word to use because you can't help but think of crappy 80's rock ballads. You're better off using a word like "soft" or "slow" to describe Black so your friend doesn't group it with a songs by Warrant or Cinderella.

I had to explain this a few times the past few weeks when people were asking why I was going to 4 shows in a week.

I say its punk meets grunge.

dont know if its a great description but it works.

  • Deep Rock? Or simply the best rock around!
    rustedsigns
  • As Ed said in "Immgine in Cornice"...some fast, some slow!
  • easy, the perfect mix of loud and quiet. i think ed also refers to the ballads as quiet ones.

Oh yer, and the thing that pisses my wife off lol. You all know the score. Empty bank accounts and full cd racks and multiple draws with t shirts, hoodies and so on. Our hall is dedicated to PJ posters.

I made my wife hate music never mind Pearl Jam
