Reading "The Old Leather Man"
...will be a problem if you're not in New England, NY, or Des Moines. You can amazon it, sure, but your local public libraries outside of those areas I mentioned don't seem to carry it, according to Worldcat.org. If you like, you can ask your library to do an interlibrary loan and you should be able to get it for little or no charge. It's mostly held at University libraries, so students will have a better chance of getting it.
Okay, good luck,

i checked the local library here and it's not stocked.
i'm going to suggest it.
Des Moines is home of the Iowa Cubs. What more could you want?!
Is that like a Kendall??
i would too, but books just collect dust if i buy them. only read em once.
plus i figure it may help the trees if i go to the library.
a winning franchise.
And a good left fielder. Shit...

I have to warn you...
it is LLOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG and Boooorrring!
Like a 10 year research project submitted into a binder.
You get the basics of Old Leatherman in a handful of stories... the majority of the book reads like a rehash of the same seven stories with painstaking passages from old newspapers... and tons of old street maps...
This story could be told better... probably should be told better...
IMO..

I’m gonna ramble.
Leather man became a type of celebrity. People even made up stories about him. Wonder if Ed has any connection to that?
He seemed not to like to talk. So why tramp around towns? Was he not self sufficient enough to live in the woods 24/7.
He gives out money at times. where did he get the money? Was there really somebody looking for him from France to give him all that money, and that’s what he handed out?
Did he kill himself? There were bruises on his head.
I liked the book. It reminded me of that special on the Civil War where people actually read people’s accounts.
Really liked the pictures in the back.
I feel bad he got cancer on his lip. What a way to go.
