    *shudder*

i cant even imagine reading a book any other way than the way ive done so for the past 40 odd years. curling up up with good book, smelling the pages, holding it in my hand. carrying a book around in my bag after ive finished with it cause i just cant quite bear to part with it. reading the blurb on the back. the thrill i get from having a stack of books by my bedside or finding a book i misplaced. sitting with the toddlermonster reading where the wild things are or dear zoo and having her reach over and turn the pages cause she cant wait to see whats next or her lifting the flaps to see whats hiding. this is what i have first hand experience of.

Paul's cousin has a kindle and loves it. I have to admit I was very skeptical but it looks pretty good. :)

I initially though "why would anyone want to spend $300 a book-displaying device...
Being on the road as much as I am for work, I can really see the allure of such a gadget. I've played around with them before and they are pretty damn slick. When a new book comes out, I buy the hardcover, spend $20-30 something on it and have to lug it around airports, planes, hotels, etc. NOT FUN! Especially with all the other crap I'm carrying...
The Kindle is super thin, you can buy brand new books for a fraction of what the hardcover is, and in two seconds you can have books, newspapers, periodicals, and pretty much anything printed in the palm of your hand.
The screen is easy to read, the battery lasts for weeks, and it's as thinner than a paper notebook.

If I had the money to spend I totally get one!

  • how easy is it to read for someone who can only read about 3 pages of text on a computer screen before it hurt's their eyes?

It's really just as easy as reading text on a piece of paper. Really! At least with a Kindle.

the more i've looked, the nook seems to be *it*
idk if i will actually get one soon, but i could definitely se one on my future. if i didn't train commute daily, i'd probably not even think of it....but i read about a book a week, and lugging some books are heavy, so if this is light like a small paperback, easy to read, stores over 1500 titles, etc...could be well worth it. i also like that the nook allows you to share titles with others, seems thus far no other ereader allows that. of course, as i mentioned earlier, the sony new reader edition is meant to come out in december....and i have no idea what all the features will be, and if they are even truly 'needed'...but with a $399 pricetag, i imagine they'd be sumthin'.

oh, and i LOVE my books too, love having em all on my bookshelves, etc.....so that lack of a 'real' book is both a pro and a con for me too.

    Yes!

I have had my kindle for a year now and love it. I know a lot of people love reading the old fashioned way but I was buying so many darn books and then I couldn't get rid of them. It's just so much easier. You can download magazines and newspapers too but I haven't delved into that yet. I highly recommend it :D
