I tried it and posted it on youtube. I know it's not right, so take it for what it is. There's a few things I learned from doing this. First, this song is very hard to sing, as you can see from my poor vocal attempt... I'm impressed by how Ed hits everything in this one. Second, it's hard to get a wrong verse out of your head even if you know it's wrong ... the "thus amazed" line will not implant itself in my skull for some reason...

Let me know what you think is wrong with this... I'm sure there's plenty. But, I would like to correct it someday.
Here's a new demo called "in the fire":

  • Really doesn't sound that bad man. Yes, the singing could be improved some, but it sounded pretty good, especially since you were playing chords at the same time, which can be pretty hard. And I think when a person is playing a cover they should try to sound more like themselves and less than exactly like the band. You know, personal creativity instead of exact copying (but not sacrificing the song). But great job, play it at a party sometime or something.
Do you see the way that tree bends? Does it inspire?

I'll not lose my faith, it's an inside job today

St. Louis 5/4/10 Hope for many more!

    Thanks for the reply.

I think I would stay away from this song if I were to play at a party, that was kinda the point of that part of my post. It's just one of those songs, that isn't really meant for a solo guitar and solo vocal IMHO.

You're right though, rearranging it may make it work. I just didn't have time or patience to try to do that.

Better than I could do! Bravo. :D

BTW - Here's a non-vocal piano cover of Amongst The Waves which is amazing.
