I'm headed to the Great Northwest for the first time next week for work and will be there for just a little over 24 hours. I have some work to do at U of Wash. but will try to maximize my time there. Is there anything I need to see Pearl Jam related that is close to the Space Needle or not too far (thats where I am staying) from that area. Also any places where I can get some good photo opps (I do some amature photography) of the skyline and other points of interest.

If you have the time, swing over to West Seattle and Alki Beach.

Yeah I heard west Seattle is nice and Alki Beach has some great locations and photo ops for shooting the city.

If you are near Seattle Center and want a great photo opp pop up the steep hill called Queen Anne Avenue and make a left and go to Kerry Park:

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kerry_Park_(Seattle)

It's right there and the view is awesome, particularly on a clear day.

As far as PJ related stuff, with nearly no time it's tough and it depends on what you want to see. I'd head over to West Seattle and hit Easy Street records. That's where Ed shops and they played a show there. The only other stuff I can think of are clubs where they played and most of those are gone. . . . . .

I loved our first visit to Seattle for the two shows in September. I really have to go back when we have more time to take more in...

With that being said, I have to admit (sorry in advance) that the EMP was a major downer. I thought it would have a huge, vast, neverending, yada yada yada music Experience... Ok I got to see the Jimi collection (which should be permanent!) and the guitar collection (interesting for any guitar/music buff) and that about sums up the place for me... It has a really nice gift center...

There was a building, I forget the name of it, in downtown Seattle. You can take an elevator ride for like $8 or something and get great views of Mt. Rainier and the city and lake... It's MUCH cheaper than the Space Needle.
A child's rhyme stuck in my head...
It said "Life is nothing but a dream."
I've spent so many years in question
To find I'd known this all along.

It's the columbia tower. If you eat at the space needle (either restaurant) you can go to the observation tower for free.

Take a water taxi over to West Seattle. You'll have an awesome chance for some pictures. Once there, take the 775 and/or 773 shuttles. One goes to Alki Beach, the other to Easy Street Records. Then, take the water taxi back and make a trip to Seattle Center and check out the Space Needle. It's doable and gives you a nice one day picture of Seattle.

Try to have dinner at Wild Ginger - one of my favorite restaurants in the world!!! So GOOD!! If you only have time for apps go around the corner and down the hill towards Pike Place and hit the Triple Door. They share a kitchen.

If you're into sushi find a place that has copper river salmon. It's unbelievable and I've never seen it outside of Seattle. :)
    Why go home?

Sculpture park is amazing, the market has great photo ops as does pioneer square. The library designed by Rem Koolhaas is incredible and beautiful-worth seeing inside and out.

Wow. 24 hours is not a lot of time to see the sights.

Are photos a priority? Keep in mind we just went off daylight's saving time and we are pretty far north (obviously :D) so it gets dark really early now.

    Good places to shoot are:

From Alki beach, you can see Elliott Bay and the Space Needle, and Queen Anne Hill. Also from West Seattle you can shoot back towards Mt. Rainier.

From Discovery Park (the beach) you can shoot back towards Mt. Ranier and West Seattle. Cool if the sun is shining.

The best view of Downtown and Elliott Bay is from the water, take the Bainbridge Island Ferry.

Gasworks park and Lake Union have cool views of the city skyline, especially as the sun is setting.

Seattle Center will get you the Space Needle, International Fountain, Key Arena and the EMP.

The waterfront piers cover Elliott Bay, and the walk up to Pike Street Market/Showbox.
. . . and in the aching night under satellites, I was not received. --CC

checking out Easy Street in West Seattle at the Alaska Junction is pretty much a must-do. PJ played a show there. If you can, take a quick bus out to Alki beach. While at the Alaska Junction, walk down a block or so to Bakery Nouveau for what will be the best plain croissant you will have outside of France. I live in Oakland and come up to Seattle just for their croissants. For coffeeshops, you'll want Cafe Vita...the Queen Anne location is closer to you but the Capitol hill one is larger and cooler.

Ed lives in west Seattle too...I usually hang out in West Seattle whenever I come up. Not much for nightlife, though. for that, gotta head to Capitol Hill. you'll find the bus system there is great. and, yes, it's corny, but the Pike Place Market is pretty neat.

have fun, bring a rain jacket.
