The NY time Book review blog suggests that Obama cant pull out of Iraq and Afghanistan without being a one term president.
What are your thoughts?
Seems to me this is wrong, for the simple fact that the American people turned against the Iraq war in December of 2004, thats when the polls started to show the majority of americans were against the war and favored pulling troops out.
And afghanistan has been tricky because its always been tied up with 9/11 obviously. I think for a long time, people didnt want to be against the Afghanistan war because that would mean, in their minds, to be against tracking down those responsible for 9/11.
The Afghanistan War now, is unpopular, with the american public, with a majority of americans now think the war isnt worth it, and that it is unwinnable
more interestingly, mainstream publications like Newsweek and tv networks have also suggested this war is unwinnable.
I am no Obama fan, but how could Obama lose enough support to lose the 2012 elections if he withdrew troops? Seems to me, the amount of people who are against the Iraq war and Afghanistan war, are very very large. Back in 2001, or 2003, maybe it was accurate to say the people demanding the end to the war, were hippies, and radicals and whatnot. Nowadays, I dont think that is the case anymore. You have a more mainstream acceptance of the basic fact that the war is unwinnable

I just don't see any accomplishments. I can't believe he got the Nobel Peace Prize. Just why did he get it? I honestly don't know. I am wondering if it was because of reverse racism?
Anyway, I hope he can step it up, quit appearing on T.V. entertainment shows, and start repairing what the last administration left us with.
If he doesn't start showing us true changes, he will be a one term president. That is so unfair to us, because it does take at least 2 terms to really get things stable.
To answer your original question though I don't see how getting out of these wars can hurt him. Majority of people are ready to be done with this bullshit. It hurts him more to stay than to leave IMO.
Did he promise to get out of Iraq or Afghanistan during the campaign?? I honestly can't remember. Reduction of troops within 16 moths for Iraq right??

There is no difference. They are all doing what the corporations want them to do.

If there wasn't a difference between the two Healthcare reform would have been passed a long time ago.
For real health care reform to take place insurance companies have to go bye bye. Both parties take money from insurance companies. On the surface there are differences (abortion rights, gay marriage, etc...), as far as the stuff that has the greatest impact on the most people (war/defense, economy), what I like to refer to as "the stuff that actually matters", they are the same.
Back on point... if the economy is good Obama will be re-elected and we'll all be just as fucked as we have been for a long time now.

I really don't think he will. I think the american people are waking up and seeing what this president is all about. He is a marxist. All you have to do is look into the past of the people in his administration and it's not hard to figure out what he really believes. All you have to do is do some digging.
Im totally disgusted with him because of the extreme radicalism of him and this congress. He has spent Trillions in just a few months.Im concerned with this B.S. Cap and Trade bill. All it's going to do is give the EPA more authority over our homes and line the pockets of General Electric and Goldman Sachs. The Gov. should not take 40 ,50,or 60% of our paychecks either due to some Gov. entitlement program. I dont mind helping out the less fortunate, but I dont think I should have to go broke in doing so.
It's not the Ins, companies it's the damn politicians
They just need to let us buy across state lines. That would create competition within in the Insurance companies and premiums would start to become more affordable.

I would say hope so but I just don't feel it matters anymore who gets in the office. My boy is so happy Ron Paul might run but if the power is truly with the money mongrels then what difference does it make?
Indiffernce might describe me now.
of course if the economy returns to normal, Obama wins. liek the book says "its the economy stupid
+1.
honestly, nobody gives a fuck about the wars right now. even the escalation of afghan is getting almost no coverage. all anybody cares about is jobs and the economy. Obama stands or falls based on unemployment and where it sits come 2012. if the economy is rebounded, he will be ok. if it's still a mess, he'll go the way of carter.
yeah, that worked for banks too.
these companies are giant monopolies, you open up across state lines and within 10 years they will all have been gobbled up into 3 mega insurance companies that will collude to set rates and nothing will have changed. this is not a long term solution to the problem. private, for-profit health insurance is the problem. to run the medical world on that philosophy is ridiculous.
What do you think?

I'm not but I'll take much longer than 9 more months a bit more like years.

Sadly, one of the few people who had the balls to not give a shit what people thought was right or wrong was GW Bush, and he still got re-elected.
I'm not a fan of the Cap & Trade program, but please elaborate on why you think Obama is a marxist. Do you even know what a marxist is? What socialism is? To quote Bill Maher, "Barack Obama is not a socialist- he’s not even a liberal."
