I bet teams were falling over themselves to give a massive contract to a 34 year old pitcher who missed 3 months last season with elbow inflammation.
There would have been someone. I just think he thought they would add the extra year. I don't think he wanted to leave. And when they didn't he said "oh I didn't really mean it"

Maybe the Dodgers. I doubt it would’ve been the Mets, as the longest deal Stearns has ever given a starting pitcher was for 2 years (Manaea last year). Maybe a mystery team…but It clearly wasn’t going to be the Yankees as they told him to F off.

The contract he would’ve received would’ve been worse, not better, in my opinion from any other team and Boras as much told him that, so he apologized to his daddy, Brian Cashman, for being an idiot and got sent to his room and then was allowed to stay on the deal he originally signed.

I doubt Boras told him that. He usually tells them to opt out. That's why the opt out is there. Boras had a tough time last season getting his players signed. Some not until the season was about to start. And the Yankees did well when Cole was out for the first half

I’m not sure Boras told him that, but it’s true.

Legend has it that he routinely cleaned out the pre and post game spreads, ultimately costing the team even more money than Chamberlain was making under contract in just food costs. This also ended up alienating him from teammates who were regularly forced to play on empty stomachs, causing sub par performances for most of the season.

Tl; dr - he was too fat
