From the postgame notes department:
NEW YORK YANKEES NOTES –
• The Yankees won their first game of the season.
• The Yankees snapped a two-game losing streak to Boston to start the season…have won six of their last nine home games vs. the Red Sox.
• LHP Andy Pettitte held the Red Sox to 1ER in 8.0IP (8H, 1BB, 3K)…improved to 18-3 in 27 career starts as a Yankee with the Yankees attempting to avoid a regular season series sweep of any length…has lost just one of his last 10 starts in the month of April, going 6-1 over the span since 2009…induced three double-play groundouts, matching his single-game career high (14 time, first since 5/26/10 at Minnesota)…matched his
longest outing since returning to the Yankees in 2007 (13th time).
Has now started a game in 15 different seasons with the Yankees, tying Red Ruffing for the second-most such seasons in franchise history behind only Whitey Ford (16).
• CF Brett Gardner (2-for-3) hit his first home run of the season and first since 9/6/11 vs. Baltimore (off Tommy Hunter)…the Yankees are now 14-2 in games in which he homers.
• C Francisco Cervelli (1-for-2) hit his first home run of the season to lead off the seventh inning…had not homered since 9/6/11 vs. Baltimore off Tommy Hunter – the first half of back-to-back homers with Gardner in that game
.
• RHP Mariano Rivera (1.0IP, 1H, 1ER, 1BB, 1K) recorded his first save of the season and the 609th of his career…was his 69th save of an Andy Pettitte win, further extending their all-time record.
Rivera now has at least one save in 18 consecutive seasons (1996-2013), surpassing Lee Smith (17) and tying John Franco (18) for the longest such streak in Major League history…has pitched for the Yankees in 19 different seasons (1995-2013), surpassing Yogi Berra and Mickey Mantle for the most seasons played with the Yankees in franchise history.
The Yankees’ first three homers this season were hit on the first pitch…hit only 2HR in their season-opening series last year vs. Tampa Bay, and did not hit their fourth homer of the year until game No. 5.
Yankees pitchers have held their opponent homerless in the first three games of the season for the first time since 1996 (also the first three)…have had a longer such stretch just once since 1977 – held opponents homerless in the first five games of the 1981 season…have now held the Red Sox homerless in each of their four games dating back to last season, their longest such stretch against Boston since a six-game span from 8/27/20025/19/2003.Reading 2004

They do have guys who can hit hrs. Maybe not in the A-Rod, Granderson, or Tex numbers. But decent hr hitters.I miss igotid880 -
So, I don't know how to say this and it hurts, but fuck, dare I say that youkilis getting drilled then hitting a home run was endearing?
Weird season so far. I'll take it though.0
