    It was a Grayson Allen type dick move, particularly given their starting second baseman had his season ended prematurely last year and is still out due to a similar slide, hence the sensitivity. You even admit you wouldn’t be happy if it was your player and I’m sure you’d expect your pitcher to retaliate. Man up.

    The guy went in hard to 2nd base and his cleat was SLIGHTLY up.  Come on now.  This is the game where players would slide 5 feet off the bag to pretty much tackle a guy.  You never want to see someone get hurt so of course I wouldn't be thrilled, but come on now. It's baseball.

    Methinks this isn't the last we've seen of this either.

    I look forward to the rubber match but it is nice to see a Yankee player not be able to break his bat AND charge the mound, as opposed to AFraud sashaying on up to first after getting plunked. Yankees/Sox rivalry is good for baseball.

    The slide was wayyyyyy late.  That is what anyone should have an issue with.  His leg was barely raised which wasn't a big deal, it was definitely the late slide into the bag to obviously take out the thrower.

    The other issue I have is Kelly missing the bean ball at Austin for his first pitch.  You throw at him and hit him the first pitch, NOT the second...

    Had to go all the way back to 1977? And catchers didn’t used to wear masks back in the day. And pitchers pitched 9 innings with 40 starts.

    They changed the catcher blocking the plate rule too.  No more collisions.  It should be called the "Buster Posey Rule".

    I have played a lot of baseball in my life, and still play... most of the time in the middle infield

    If I was the second baseman I would have been pissed as hell.

    It wasnt horrible though, needing reviews from the league, etc.  

    It probably warranted a high and tight one, or a beanball in the meat with some velocity taken off.  Winging a 98 MPH fastball (on a second attempt) for that is wrong as well.

    Per MLB reporting. He made contact with spikes to his ankle and calf.

    Tempers initially flared in the third inning, when Austin slid hard into second base on a Tyler Wade fielder's choice, his spikes connecting with Boston shortstop Brock Holt. Words were exchanged between Austin and Holt, which prompted the bullpens and benches to empty.

    "I probably said something I shouldn't have to start the whole thing," Holt said. "I'm sorry for that. I just wanted him to know it was a bad slide. I think everyone on the field knows that it was."

    Replays showed that Austin had his left foot pointing up as he slid into Holt's right foot, with third baseman Rafael Devers having fielded Wade's bunt swiftly. Holt said that his right calf was sliced by Austin's spikes, but Austin maintained that it was a fine play.

    Dick move.

    fucking love judge popping right in the middle putting the dude in a head lock and pretty much saying “I don’t think you guys wanna do this”
    It was a Grayson Allen type dick move, particularly given their starting second baseman had his season ended prematurely last year and is still out due to a similar slide, hence the sensitivity. You even admit you wouldn’t be happy if it was your player and I’m sure you’d expect your pitcher to retaliate. Man up.
     
    The guy went in hard to 2nd base and his cleat was SLIGHTLY up.  Come on now.  This is the game where players would slide 5 feet off the bag to pretty much tackle a guy.  You never want to see someone get hurt so of course I wouldn't be thrilled, but come on now. It's baseball.

    Methinks this isn't the last we've seen of this either.
    Its probably not the end of it. But, if Austin drops his bat and just goes to first, you think that might be the end of it?(for now)>You know, like most players did back in the day?

    Finally listened to what the Red Sox had to say.

    Brock Holt was the most reasonable. Didn't mean to start all that but wanted Austin to know how he felt and that he had no interest fighting Judge, Stanton, etc.

    I played second base into college and IMO the slide was fine. I didn’t think it was late at all.

    It was reviewed by the umps wasn't it? They ruled it to be within the rules.
