He is often given alot of crap for the long song titles and the ambitiousness of the supposed 50 states project, but I am actually pretty upset that he is not going through with it. The last few interviews he has given, he has said, things along the line of, that the 50 state project is just too much, and that it was a gimmick. "The whole premise was such a joke,” he told Paste, “and I think maybe I took it too seriously. I started to feel like I was becoming a cliché of myself.”

There is a reason Illinois was named greatest album of the decade by Paste. And Michigan is a great record as well. Seven Swans is great.

I feel sort of sad, that he wont be making any more state records.

Whatever you want to say about the overblown nature or pompous nature of it, Sufjan is damn good at making albums about states. To be honest if I were a teacher, and the kids were learning the states, or if I had a child who was doing a project on Illinois or Michigan, I would buy them the records. I think alot can be learned via those records.
