Last minute plans to go to Australia / NZ

edited November 2009 in The Porch
So I only got back from the four amazing Philly gigs yesterday but I knew on my way back that I wasn't done. I've had too much fun to stop now. I've booked some flights on the credit card and I'm gonna worry about it next year. I invite all of you to be as reckless with money as I am, to think, 7 more gigs!!!

I was wondering if anyone is driving round the Oz gigs (and yes I know it's a huge distance between them but there are some just crazy enough to do so). Also, it's a good idea if a load of us get together and share hotel rooms. If were lucky, we could end up in a hotel next to the one where the band are staying and bump into Mike McCready two days in a row (and yes this actually did happen in Philly to my friends which is why I am mentioning it).

Get in touch with deatails, ideas, pre or post party info (if there aren't any, there should be).

Since I came out to Seattle, I've met hundreds of amazing people and can't wait to meet more.

Also still looking for spare 10c for Adelaide, Sydney and Christchurch.

Much love to all
Charlene

    Hey Charlene,

The drive can be done between most cities but Perth to Adelaide will be too long a drive so I would recommend flying that leg.

Take a look at http://www.lifewasted.net forum as this has lots of info about after parties, 10c tix and someone on there was planning a touring van (not sure if they have room for you).

Will be great to see you down under!

    Cheers,
    Dean
  • I have to admit, now with the cheap flights around oz, you would probably be cheaper to fly then to drive.
  • Also lots of us meeting up after the Auckland show...heres the original thread. dont be put off by just six views. We've been chatting about it on the OZ/NZ threads too....look forward to jamming it up in NZ!!

  • If you need any help or advice with Perth/WA let me know - there are a few of us organising a pre-show meet up and group to help each other in the GA pit.

    :D

I got back Sunday night and looked and flights then was OVERWHELMED on how to get it all together, so I kind of ditched the idea. I have no tickets, hotel, etc...

    Maybe...

Maybe, I should start looking again.

The offer is there from a hadful of very cool West Aussie fans to give you whatever help and assistance to be at hte Perth shows. I know a good hotel close to the venue (or loads of backpackers close enough), we're sorting the pre drinks atm. If you're coming our way - you'd want to leave some time in the next few days - it'd be a real shame to get to West Aust and not see anything other than Perth. It is really beautiful over here.

Any travellers who are coming over and are interested in seeing the south west (Margaret River/Yallingup area) contact me. :)

I was just looking into it and I could do it.

Then I got thinking and our Project Manager is going to Jamaica on the 12th so I am required to stay and hold shit together :(

    Hi Charlene:

I met you in Philly! I'd love to go but I have no more vacation time this year and no more money to spend. Looks like I'll be saving my $$$ for those rumored NY shows in May and any other shows that may pop up next year since starting in January I'll have 4 weeks of vacation to use on Pearl Jam shows.

I hope to see you again next year! :)

Fly between cities to save your sanity

Less than $100 one way each leg.
  • Right gonna get things firmly in plan over the next couple of days. Just wanted to mention that I have been in contact with a man in a van and he does have room, and plenty of it. So if anyone is interested we need to get a list sorted out (boring formality stuff but essential - til we get there then drink our way around the country!).

Also, for those of you wondering the cheapest way, prepare yourself - get yourself to LA (I'm in NY so Jetblue it is) There is a sale on Virgin Australia to Sydney and Melbourne. I'm going to Sydney on the 11th then have a long wait (16 hours, or something like that but it could be less for more money) to fly out to perth. Hurry 'cos their sale ends on th 5th. This is a hell of a trip for me, I leave 11th morning and with time difference I get to perth 13th night - but it's worth it for PJ!!!!

The flight to Sydney is $525, then to perth expect around $180, something like that.

I expect to see everyone of you!!!

I will be doing NZ, it is really cheap to fly between cities. I used Virgin Blue. We don't have our hotels yet but I am not too worried about it..Can't wait for the two weeks off.

what are you doing in the days between the shows? Are you staying the entire tour?

It sounds so awesome! If it was a couple weeks later I would totally do it.
  • Hey so I booked my tickets a couple months ago through Air New Zealand. I was talking to an Air NZ agent tonight and mentioned how I'm passing through NZ on my way to OZ. They said "so you know you need a visa to enter Australia on a US passport, right? " :o Whaaaaa? Instant panic. Never heard about this. It's not required for NZ, so I thought it'd be the same for Australia. Nope. Anyway, the lady reassured me that it's a painless, instant process that can be done over the phone so long as your passport is alright. She processed my passport info during our conversation and got it done for me (cost $20).

Just passing this along to anyone else that is going over. If she didn't mention it then I would have been denied entry to board the plane next week!!! I am sooooooooo lucky.
