Good to see this album getting renewed exposure with the reissue, I always considered it a "lost classic" of sorts between War and The Joshua Tree. It may be a little scattershot, but I love the atmospheric production throughout; it's a highly spiritual album. Plus "Bad" might be their best song.

Loved the album and better yet loved the tour, Bono was so wild with the mullet he wore during that tour. BAD was such an emotional song on that tour and for me was the best song along with *A Sort Of Homecoming*

Wow, you got to see that tour? That's pretty awesome, I wasn't even born yet!

Even though I still like U2, I would rather see them in their Unforgettable Fire-era form than how they are now... the whole claw thing is massive, and it's amazing, but it takes away from the music somewhat.

That's nothing I saw them on the BOY TOUR by mistake in Boston 1980. A friend told me he was going to see the J Giels Band or The B 52's which is what I thought he said but it was U2. When I got there i told him this is not the B52's who the hell is this? Needless to say U2 stole the show in this small club in Boston, Bono was nuts.

The songs that caught my eye/ear were "I Will Follow" "The Electric Co" "An Cat Dubh" "A Day Without Me" "Into the Heart" "Out of Control" "Stories for Boys" I also the first date of the WAR TOUR in Norfolk Va. I do wish I was at THIS concert though..U2 US Festival 1983 this is the crazy kind of stuff Bono would do back then.

I was hooked till they got so big after ZOOROPA .

I keep pointing to this album when I hear people say how u2's last album is a sign that they're done as a bad and have no more inspiration. no line is very much like unforgettable fire... the band became huge on big rock radio anthems, then turned out a subdued, moody album that has incredible moments but also a bit of inconsistency. both albums are big on atmosphere.

i didnt use to care for unforgettable fire, but the remaster has helped it a lot. whereas before it sounded murky and unmemorable, now you can feel what they were trying to do with this album.
  • yeah, this is a great album! i love the whole album! great album to listen to on a "lazy sunday". i was lucky enough to see U2 open for the j.geils band in march of 82 at the L.A. sports arena. i remember Bono walking out into the crowd during their set. i thought that was awesome at the time. i haven't seen them since nov. 87 in oakland on the joshua tree tour.

  • I LOVE this album. One of the greatest ever. Bad is my all time favorite U2 song. It makes me cry when I hear it.

I love the live versions of Bad and A Sort of Homecoming on the "Wide Awake in America" ep. Wore that disc out.
"You're no help," he told the lime. This was unfair. It was only a lime; there was nothing special about it at all. It was doing the best it could.

I think this is one of those albums that proved that a rock and roll band could get very serious and still rock an arena. Maybe the Clash did that first, but they pretty much kept within the limits of rock and roll. U2 went for a sound that was from outer space and inner space all at once. But at times, it sounds like they are just practising on this album. For example, the album version of Bad is simply not that good, which is probably why they put out Wide Awake in America. The Joshua Tree is when they finally figured it out.
  • I had that one on album and used to listen to it in college over and over.

I know the version of "Bad" on the album is considered "unfinished", but I actually prefer it to the live version.

  • Definitive U2 from start to finish. They are a shadow of the band that made this album. Elvis Presley and America is a very emotive track and Pride and Unforgettable Fire are outstanding, the latter being my favourite U2 song of all time. Along with Wire, they never got to grips with this track live which is a shame.

Gotta dig my copy out and give it a spin now! :D
It's gonna be a glorious day...
