I have to say she's pretty SMART! :D I think, I just wouldn't have handled things this particular way.
A Wisconsin woman called 911 to report a drunk driver. It turned out that she identified the driver as herself.

According to the released 911 tape, Mary Strey of Granton, Wisc., called the emergency number on Oct. 24 at about 11:20 p.m. and reported "Somebody's really drunk driving down Granton Road." The dispatcher tried to determine which way the reported driver was headed and asked Strey "Okay are you behind them, or..."

Strey responded, "No, I am them."

The dispatcher verified, "You am them?"

"Yes, I am them," replied Strey.

"Okay, so you want to call and report that you're driving drunk?" confirmed the dispatcher. "Yes," Strey answered.

The dispatcher then directed Strey to stop driving and pull over. The 911 call has been posted online by WSAW-TV.

According to the police report , Strey had blood-shoot eyes and smelled of alcohol. She told the officer,"I called in I'm drunk."

Not very smart seeing she shouldn't have gotten behind the wheel in the first place.

I just read this on my local news website here in Cincy, and this is what my first thoughts were.

It does sound to me like and obvious "cry for help". either way, credit should be given for realizing that she was too drunk to drive.
    Peace, Love.

she loses credit for the fact that even if she realized she shouldnt be driving drunk, whipping out a cell phone while driving to call somebody is not going to help matters ;)

I hope she was using a hands-free device when calling in. Cell phones can be very distracting when driving.

I watched this on the news this morning. They asked her to stop driving and she said okay. I don't know why she didn't stop on her own.
I would love for someone to imterview her sober and ask her why she did what she did. I am betting she was in a blackout and really doesn't know. If she does tell a story, its likely partly true and partly filled in with guesses she thinks may have happened.
Also, I would love to see the judge's face when he/she hears this story. Will she get any leniency?

If I knew where it was I would take you there.

  • Wouldnt it have been a lot easier to just call a taxi....

And tell the driver she was drunk????

Would have saved her a lot of aggravation......
