Jump from balcony Friday?

Has anyone else here heard about this? I heard from three different people (one Friday, and two on Halloween), including a Spectrum paramedic Saturday, that someone on some drug literally jumped from the Section 317A balcony and wound up paralyzing the person the jumper leapt on. I haven't seen any news story about that. If it's true, that is really a downer, and my heart goes out to the afflicted.

I had people bump into me Friday seven or eight times because it's difficult to see and navigate the Spectrum steps. That night, I was at the top of a 300 level and just below a 400-level exit. There were some precarious turns of steps.

I saw this dude fall but I never saw any one rush over to the section. I kept periodically looking over there from my seat and it didn't seem like any commotion ever went on. I talked to a girl on Saturday who saw him fall too and she also didn't see what looked like paramedics or security over there. Something HAD to have happened though, that's a serious fall. Hope your source is wrong and everyone's okay :(

    Man that's awful.

    Get out.

Many of us were commenting on something like that happening - a purely accidental case however. Since everyone was spilling beer all over the steps, and the low railings, I was surprised not one accidentally slipped and fell over the railings. Especially since the Spec staff didn't really seem to be pushing back the crowds in the later half of the shows (just from what I witnessed).

I can’t imagine the results of that fall - nor do I want to.

In the early 1980's, I was sitting in the S[ectrum. first level, Section Z (now section 206 or so) between the opening band and Genesis, and we hear a loud "BANG" right behind us... I turn just to see my friend grab his own shoulder and wince in pain... then I see a dude's foot sticking out between the chairs in the row behind us... the guy gets up, all wasted, kinda stumbles around, and says "WOOOOOOO GENESIS!!!" and walks away...

to this day we still talk about it... free-fall from the 2nd level right onto an empty row of chairs with nothing to break your fall... amazing none of us were paralyzed....

  • I saw nothing, but my friend that was in the 300s did. This is his account: Apparently, someone was climbing over the railings to get a better view, during the first or second song. My friend noticed him climbing but then looked at the band. When he looked back, the guy was gone.

He asked some people around him and someone said he'd jumped. My friend ran down and saw the guy spread out, not moving with EMT's flashing lights in his eyes.

This story upsets me. On Saturday, I asked an EMT what had happened and he said, "Some guy was tripping and thought he could fly... Two people are presumed to be paralyzed."

Now, that is no confirmation. But very scary.

I hope everyone is ok. Odd that there is no story about this.

I was in the 400's....all the way in the back. I happened to be looking over at that section for some reason and I saw the guy take a leap. I couldn't believe me eyes. I thought I was hallucinating until someone on 10c confirmed it the next day.

    Unreal.

I also heard it was during the first song. This is terrible news, and it seems enough people have seen or heard about it for it to be true. I feel awful.

Phils fan injured at Pearl Jam

Holme Circle's Bill Michael had to watch games 3, 4 and 5 from his bed after he was injured by some jerk who landed on him after jumping from the 300 level at the Spectrum during Pearl Jam's Friday concert, narrowly missing NBC 10's John Clark.

Michael, who was in the 200 level, and the culprit were taken to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital, where his Chase Utley shirt had to be cut off. Michael, 34, an auditor, filed a police report, but the jumper was not arrested. Michael yesterday said that he has back and neck pain, but feels a lot better than he did over the weekend.

According to Michael, he overheard the jumper in the hospital call friends to boast about his stupid stunt. Some may remember Pearl Jam front man Eddie Vedder climbing the balcony at the Trocadero (1003 Arch) and jumping off in the "Alive" video.

"It's unfortunate that one person took it upon himself to ruin, for some, a great event that people had truly been looking forward to seeing," said Ike Richman, of Comcast Spectacor.

Glad to read that the poor guy this asshole landed on is okay.

Right in front of me, scary. A guy that he landed on walked away holding his neck, hope he's ok. Not one security person came up to ask what happened. Since it happened right at the entrance for Sec 317, you'd think someone would have come up to see if he was pushed, jumped, slipped, whatever. Not good.
Still had a great time at three of the four shows. Go Phils!!!

It happened in the section right next to me
dude fell or jumped from the 300s right on top of section 215
a couple of people were injured and a couple of others were just pissed

I met one guy who was given a setlist and a poster-not sure why, but he was pissed off that some dude nearly landed on his head

but he showed me the setlist outside in the beer line

I saw present tense on the list and quickly returned to my seat :D
