At the risk of sounding cheesy...

Tonite is the Vedder DC show. it will put a bookend on a year that was probably my toughest, but where PJ and Ed were such a beautiful backdrop... it is a full circle moment for me. I'll explain

Last september I broke up with my boyfriend of nearly 7 years, the man who I thought was my soulmate. I couldn't have been more wrong, so I moved out of our home, back in with my parents.

Two days later, we found out my Dad was in the fight of his life. He had cancer, for the second time. I felt like I was where I was supposed to be, there to fight with him, no matter how hard the situation was. The dr's thought it unlikely he would make it until christmas.

September 18th, I picked up ITTW soundtrack. I loved the book, but I had no idea just how powerful the soundtrack would be in my own life. I think that day the only reason I got out of bed was to buy the music, and it became a considerable inspiration for me to continue to get out of bed.

Inspirational, a soundtrack all about getting lost in order to find yourself... What a gift.

I heard about the west coast tour, so I up and flew cross country to get "lost" in San Diego (by myself). The two shows I saw were such a re-charge for my soul that I came back with enough fight in me to help my Dad, who was in failing health with a dire outlook.

I played the song "rise" for my dad on his last trip to the hospital for chemo. The beauty of the song and the power of the lyrics really touched him. Tears were shed. I learned later that the the song was being used in the "stand up to cancer" campaign.

The week of the DC pearl jam show, we found out that the treatments worked, Dad had defied all of the odds, and was cancer free. There was NO BETTER way for me to celebrate this then to go to a PJ show.

This evening, I will be attending my third Vedder show, this time here at home in DC. I have found myself again :) I have fallen in love, my Dad stood up to cancer and won, the icing on the cake will be hearing him (hopefully) sing "Rise" tonite... with my sister by my side. Needless to say Dad will be on both of our minds during this song. He celebrated his 63rd birthday last week :)

I will be forever grateful for this year... and the music that offered comfort and hope.

Congrats to you and your Dad! Your story made me cry.

I, too, find the soundtrack very personal and inspirational in my own life, with its many challenges. Only recently, have things begun to look up for me, and the defining moment for that was attending the Montreal #1 show. May tonight's show be that defining moment for you too. :)

I'm glad to hear your father is doing well. I saw Ed 2nd night at United Palace Theatre and it really lifted my spirits. I almost had the chance to thank him in person prior to the show, he didn't make it all the way to me, but waived and said hello

Enjoy the show tonight and I'm glad things are starting to work out for you and your family

Great news about your dad! My mom also has had a rough year health wise and I also went throught a 5 year break-up...so I can relate to your situation.

Pearl Jam also has been my salvation.
