Just got back from Philly... Just felt like I wanted to take a minute to say that those 2 nights and those 2 shows are without a doubt that best 2 Musical Experiences of my life...

The 2nd encore of Friday night was amazing, the energy and celebratory feeling in that building was just I unique feeling that ive gotten only from Pearl Jam shows in the past but not like that... Sonic Reducer, Breath BABA . The trilogy... i was speechless and DEAD tired by the end of it

SATURDAY... ill start with this.. FUCK THE GUEST RUMORS>.. who gives a shit, My favorite band is PEARL JAM, I went away for the weekend and put effort into getting to Philly for PEARL JAM... as a fan of rock music in general, ofcourse in a way it would have been cool for BRUCE Or NEIL or whoever else to have popped up ... but in the END i was happy that the focus was on OUR BAND and nobody else... so in now way was I dissapointed because there were no surprise guests...

The energy that ED and the band put into that show and put into giving the people of PHILLY something so special to remember the SPECTRUM by was touching to be honest... they care almost to much I think in some cases... it was the BEST>.. 3.5 hrs of Pearl Jam music is like 4 or 5 hrs from other bands due to the energy of 99% of their songs... ED did such a wonderful job with the setlist... back n fourth... hit , rarity... speech about the spectrum... expressing his gratitude to the crowd... and for how awesome the crowd was...

cmon... BUGS, sweet Lou... the list goes on and on... I was ready to call it a night after the 2.5 hr mark! haha still tired sore and voiceless from Friday... and im 29 and in pretty good shape... for the BAND to do what they did Saturday... I didnt think i could respect them anymore than I already did... but i DO NOW!!!

THe last couple songs with the lights on the streemers the balloons... a concert experience and moment that will never be matched in my book...

By the way, im from the BOSTON area, i got no connection to Philly at all... so my comments about the venue the shows and the crowd are completely objective... i wish i could say Boston shows gave me the same type of experience these 2 did...

THANK YOU SO MUCH PEARL JAM... WHat a weekend!!!!!

great review...you really summed it up!

i, too, was happy when i heard no guests...i was there for PJ!!
  • I was there for PJ absolutely! But certainly arrived at the show hoping Neil rumors would be true!
  • I went into the show hoping for a couple of those rumors to come true. Being a fan of rock music and its history, I found myself excited about the rumors that people like Bruce and Neil might show up. In the end however, I was glad when Ed referred to the "ungodly fucking rumors" and said that it would just be Pearl Jam. I was there to see Pearl Jam, and I got a PJ concert and then some. Incredible show.

You're right-on about Ed killing himself to go above-and-beyond to make this run special. So many little touches and things he did to make it memorable. I can't wait for the boots to hear every one 'cause I'm sure I missed plenty. And you know there was some adversity to battle through - sound issues, fighting off fatigue, guests canceling (a reporter said he saw a set list with "Bruce (?)" written next to one of the songs), etc. It felt like he was using sheer will at times to make it an amazing experience. He's an amazing talent with a huge heart. I gained a new level of respect for him for the love he showed for that place and PJ's fans. I don't know Ed, but I think it says a lot about the type of person he is. It was great to be a part of.
I smile, but who am I kidding...

FYI - I saw the setlist. It said "Bruce Song (?)" Just like Ed mentioned they may play one of his songs, they just ended up skipping it.

Yeah, that's my understanding of what that part of the setlist meant. I don't think any of the guests were ever actually scheduled to play with PJ.
