Sitting and Complaining at Philly 4

Tonight, I sat in my friend's 10C tickets since I wasn't around to buy them for myself, and we sat in section 307 in the first row. The past couple of nights we have been close to the stage and even on the floor once. This crowd was easily the weakest. :|

But even besides that, there were two seemingly middle aged people (around there 30s or 40s) sitting next to us who kept bothering us about standing the whole time, saying that they couldn't see as well and that they wanted us to sit down. This is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard. :?

WHO SITS DOWN EVEN DURING ALIVE when EVERYONE else in the place was standing and getting into it?

Another terrible thing was that they looked like they barely wanted to be there, decked out in Phillies gear and constantly on their phones. I mean, honestly, I was checking my phone for the score as well, but only in between songs or at opportune times, not when I was watching an amazing band play an amazing set.

That being said, I want to thank Pearl Jam for these concerts which were absolutely amazing, especially FRIDAY when the crowd and the set list were the best! 8-):D

The same kind of thing happend to me on friday. I was sitting in my seat after Bad Religion as the majority of the crowd made their way in. And this group of 3 people are making their way through my section. It was so obvious that the one girl was extremely wasted (she could barely stand and needed her friend to hold her up.) So just my luck they end up having the seats directly behind mine. It was only about 5 minutes later that the intro video started and of course i get on my feet. Then all I hear from behind me is the girl whining at me "Sit down, Sit down!!" :x :x This really pissed me off. I just turned around and was like " are you gonna be f**king sitting when the band comes on?!" Her two friends knew that she was being an asshole and they told her to shut up and they apologized to me. This girl then proceeds to fall asleep literally one song into PJ's set and doesn't wake up till right before the 2nd encore!!! I couldn't have been happier about this because it shut her the hell up!!!:mrgreen:

Speaking as a middle aged PJ fan, I can say that we're all not that lame. I probably annoyed more people with my jumping around and rocking out to the best band ever. I never understood why people who aren't into the band go to the show. Give that opportunity to a real fan!! I can't wait for the day when I get to rock out with the front rows. I snuck down fri night but only got to stay a little while before I got caught. Can't wait to get the boots and to hear info on the tour in 2010.
Shine on all you crazy diamonds!!!!

Are we getting something out of this......all encompassing trip?

  • People listen to and enjoy music in different ways. From what I saw over
the past 2 nights, everyone had a good time and that's really all that matters.

Whether or not you sit down or stand up makes no difference to me. As long as
people don't get in my shit, I'm fine and in all my shows that has never happened.

I totally agree. In section 209 we had a bunch of assholes. My cousin sat next to this couple who must of went to the bathroom a hundred times. The dudes behind us talked the whole show. I asked them if they could hear the band because all I could hear is them talking(especially during Black). The 4 guys in front of us where the worse. They all sat there on their phones, ate food, and one of them actually fell asleep. Now I know there where 4 other people in Philly who where better deserving of those seats.

I tuned everyone out and enjoyed the show. Glad I was there for 3 out of the 4 nights. Thanks to Eddie and the guys for awesome 10c seats.

    PS:

Anyone else hate when people leave before the show is over? Come on now.

I left Philly 4 right after the balloons fell and as soon as I heard Ledbetter kick in. I was probably
back at my hotel room making a chicken chimichanga before Mike even finished the song.

From what I understand the ballgame and concert let out within minutes of each other and
it was a nightmare getting out of the parking lot and area. Fuck that. I've seen Ledbetter before.

Yeah, don't stereo-type middle aged fans! I'm 36 and have just as much fun as the rest of ya! I don't let others bring me down from having a good time during a show, although I am respectful to those around me. That being said, sitting during Alive is just not possible!

I always wonder about those that over serve themselves feel about the show the next day! "Great time last night at the show! Wish I could remember it!" To each their own....

Sorry! I didn't mean to stereotype the age group at all! I saw a lot of middle aged people rocking out even harder than myself, I was just stating their age ;)

Try and get me to sit at a PJ show. Just try. I dare you. Well, unless I'm sitting to hide amongst the people to smoke a fat joint

  • i went wednesday, friday and saturday (stupid class on tuesday). wednesday i was lucky enough for my friend to win 9th row so obviously we were in a good section, friday i was a few rows back on the wings so pretty close to the stage so it was hard to not be into it. saturday rolls around and i pull section 326 about four or five rows back from the ten club (not complaining about this at all since i knew going into it they had extra 10club tickets). i had visions of what you dealt with since it seems the farther you go back the more people want to sit and there was no way I wouldn't be jumping and having a great time. needless to say, everyone around me was GREAT. everyone was up and having a great time. really added to an already great show. sorry to the people who had to deal with bummers. it's a luck of the draw i guess.

Funniest thing about this thread is people in their 30s being referred to as middle aged.

I hate sitting at shows but believe it or not a lot of people buy seats because they er... want to sit down. ;)
  • Dudes, I hear ya!!! My wife and I were at opening night. Im 48 shes 39...the only time either of us sat down was when Eddies did,"Just Breathe" acoustic...which, by the way was soo beautiful. I don't get people who need to talk to there friends or on there phones during the slower songs. The slower songs are so beautiful, I love hearing Eddie preform them, his voice is just amazing. Then I have a drunken bimbo hanging all over her boyfriend mumbling how awesome PJ is.

Then I had some 6"6, 300lbs. plus guy moving around the four seats him and his friends occupied...so I had a clear view of the stage and then i didn't. Then his girlfriend had to sit on his lap. For the love of God...stay home and watch the concert videos on your plazma tv. I just dont get it.

But all in all another great show...looking forward to the full US tour in winter/spring!!

    Peace to all,

    Pauly-p

Gotta give them props for at least having manners. They are after all, "their own reward."
