I agree, there wasn't much energy from the fans. I had floor seats and tonight probably had the least energy from the crowd out of all four nights. But I rocked my ass off. 4 Epic shows!!! Thanks Pearl Jam for bringing it every night! And thanks 10c!
I really don't understand how people can say that there was no energy .. i was on the floor middle section and i thought Philly really showed up, even with the annoying baseball fans and all.. i guess theirs always a few assholes who don't get their expectations met.. I personally couldn't have asked for more out of all four nights.. epicness! Thank you so much pearl jam
9th row Mike on the aisle, felt a bit bad about the 10 year old kid in the row behind me- he never had a chance to see the show with this yellow and black stripy suited Aussie nutter pogoing for 3 1/2 hours straight. Awesome feeling, with ANOTHER Aussie Londoner right with me in 8th and aisle. What are the frikking odds of that happening?
Felt the stands were great. Lots of action up there, seemingly. It is a different scene. Can't wait to see what Mexico and South America are like, hopefully next year. And hopefully a GA show in North America too. And a more sedate Benaroya-style one.
115 bucks for half a haircut by a novice? I want my money back!
Fans were weak, I wouldn't have played til 2am even if I paid til 3...philly has nothing to brag about. It was obvious during the sind-a-longs that is a another puccy face crowd. Weak. Band was expecting more from fans, fans were expecting hendrix joplin lennon jfk and the lord. Ed even said FU its us its me who else u need. Shitbag crowds every night and oh by the way its not about sitting standing or swaying vs rock dancing its about the vibe which was 1.7 on 10 scale. Ed ed mike matt jeff stone and spectrum deserved better than a pansie asz crowd.
wow. you should try anger management. everyone I know left with great vibes.
Life should NOT be a journey to the grave with the intention of
arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to
slide in sideways, BBQ sandwich in one hand, cold beer in the other,
body thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and screaming "Woo Hoo what a

my first show was an epic show, 9/29/96; last night was the same. first off, if the crowd sucked and wasn't deserving, why would they play 41 songs? also i remember about an hour and a half in, ed said something along the lines of, "we could be about 1/2 way through if you do your part". So if going by ed's words, they should have played about 3 horus, but 3 and 1/2 hours?! there's no way the crowd sucked in their eyes. ed even said along the lines of "each night has gotten better and better." i don't understand why people are so critical. it was a long show, better than state college and better than boston 3 in my opinion. i really don't think we'll ever see this type of set list again but this is pearl jam so you never know. maybe next time they pull off stupid mop somehow.
out of 39 shows since 96, this was top three for me and i've seen a lot. i don't think it could replace my first show at randall's because the feeling wasn't the same, but last night could have overtaken the 2nd night at msg in 98. last night i was row 19 dead center and at msg and randall's i was first row in front of eddie....something was going on last night and i think we finally saw what pearl jam can really do when they want to do it.
oh yeah jc, you are dead wrong, last nights crowd was incredible.
It was obvious...last nite es said "finally philly showed up" tonight he had no comment ... guess what me neither except weak!!! Puccyfacepricksfakefu(K FANS ... I WAS IN SEC 226. GN
I was in 203 and was surrounded by fans who had a blast. Loud, hive fiving, fist bumping ... awesome !! Well , save for one PDA jockey who tried to ruin Bugs for everyone by booing and tried to take my eye out by sticking his thumbs down in my face during Out of My Mind. The PDAJ was clearly in the minority and was even told to can the rhetoric and hand gestures by folks around me.
There were plenty of occasions to revel in the show for every level of fan last night, and each of the last four nights. That is one big reason why I love this band so much. From the songs with wide radio play to the first time OMG moments for the serious collector and hardcore traveller, the shows were mindblowing and unforgettable.

This kind of threads make me sick and ashamed to be part of this fan base. So pretentious, so assanine. Ohh...my city is better than your city! We are bigger better fans because we are louder! Philly didn't deserve this show! My show had special guests so it was better!
Unless your name is Eddie or any of the other members of the band, who gives a damn what you think about the reaction of the crowd? Actually even if the bands members were to say that..I paid $90 to be there and I am going to yell as much or as little as I want.

Great post, dead on. My first show was Randalls 1 96, and I feel the same way.
There was a lot of sentiment in the air last night and the band really stepped up to produce a proper farewell show to a historic venue that held many memories for many people in many different ways. Anyone saying the crowd sucked and was anything less than appreciative and excited is maniacal, or they werent really there.
Great setlist, long show, several surprises and a jacked crowd made this long show unforgettable for me. It passes the 96 and 98 shows and Spectrum 03 as probably my favorite show of theirs. Maybe time will rearrange that view, but the best part is that this band is capable of achieving that, and "one-upping" themselves on any given night. But certainly last night was not you're average night.
And so you see, I have come to doubt All that I once held as true I stand alone without beliefs The only truth I know is you.

OP...get a life.
honest to god...well said. i can not believe we have another one of these threads....and i don't know where they're coming from. maybe i was too oblivious to what everyone else was doing because i was too busy singing my heart out, jumping around, and dancing, but i thought the crowds rocked. if the band didn't agree you certainly couldn't tell from their comments or energy.
I agree, there wasn't much energy from the fans. I had floor seats and tonight probably had the least energy from the crowd out of all four nights. But I rocked my ass off. 4 Epic shows!!! Thanks Pearl Jam for bringing it every night! And thanks 10c!

This is pretty much what I was going to say. I was sitting towards the end on 107 on the floor (Thanks TenClub, haha) and I thought the energy level seemed great last night. Or maybe I was just in my own little world...and as a Yankee fan, I had to just grin and bear the whole Phillies thing
Maybe some people were sittin... everyone standing around me on Friday and Saturday but as far as the Loudness and singing... THESE CROWDS ROCKED!!! Props to Philly Im from MASS But i thought they were the 2 loudest... and more importantly consistently LOUDEST out of the approx 30 shows ive been too... Amazing experience
HOLD ON rocked! i would love to see that get some setlist time...
Meant to mention earlier, saw a copy of Saturday night setlist... not as many cross outs and changes than i thought would be... However, SOLDIER OF LOVE was on it...
the crowd sucked because the phillies got spanked by the yankees.
there were thousands of obnoxious philly fans overexicted about the possibility of the phillies winning the world series and pearl jam playing an unconscionable show.
once it became apparent that the phillies weren't winning, the crowd took a serious downturn.
the phillies and their fans suck, but pearl jam and what they did this week was extraordinary.
Wait... so maybe a really "rare" and "weird" setlist does not a good concert make?
Yoda?
From what I could see of the band's faces, they seemed to be pretty impressed with the crowd. Mike was laughing and interacting with people, Jeff smiled a bunch at people in the crowd, and Eddie looked like he was taken aback on several occasion when he scanned the crowd.
I was in sect. 205, row one - Aside from those on the floor in front of me, I have no idea how the crowd was - I was waaaaaaay too into the show to notice - drenched in sweat and sore all over by the end - I think I did my part and had a great time doing it! It really bothers me that others think the crowd was weak....it bothers me because that's not what I wanted the band to feel by the end of the night...I wanted to give them back what they gave us - an incredible, unbelievable time. I really hope we didn't dissapoint them - b/c they surely surpassed every expectation I had and I felt pretty good about the crowd when I left - reading all this makes me wonder how they (the Band) felt - they did seem to have a good time, though. Lingering on the stage at the end, soaking it all in.
Wasn't at the shows, and therefore don't really care what the crowds were like. I will say that these are probably the four best consecutive setlists that the band has ever played (subjective opinion, admittedly). I really appreciate the extent to which the band dug deep and challenged themselves (and us fans) by playing some really rare material. I also appreciate that they played the warhorses as well, and from what I've read, the song execution and performance quality were on point. The youtube videos and such show a band having a lot of fun. Will be a great set of bootlegs. Can't believe people would complain. Actually, I can. Someone will always find something. I can complain with the best of them at times, and sometimes the complaining may even be warranted. Sorry, but if PJ morphed into a band like the Foo Fighters who plays the same stuff every show, yeah, that'd be a problem, given that PJ has always been different that most rock bands in this regard. I don't always like the gimmicks (back-up singers in '08 were the worst, at least the strings had their moments this time around) or the "special guests" or the encores that get a little too predictable at times (they figured out a way to make me a little tired of Red Mosquito, of all songs!) ... This time, though, its pretty darn hard to complain. 103 unique songs over four nights, a bunch of songs they'd never tried before, a bunch they had played but shelved for years, and all the classics as well ... No gimmicks (except maybe the strings), no guests taking up half the show (did anyone really need Bruce Springsteen to show up? Honestly?), just pure unadulterated PJ doing what they do best: Striking that balance between what we know and love and shocking the crap out of everyone (seriously, Sweet Lew?!!). Quit complaining, just this one time, and appreciate things as they are.
401A was a shit crowd. Not too happy with the 10C about that placement.
Wait, you got 10C in the rafters?
i got 10 club in the last row of the 300 section - under the stairs. i couldnt even stand up in my seat since the sloped ceiling would hit my head if i went backwards even an inch.
so i stood on the stairs, no big deal - but still, they should not have sold those seats under 10 club.

your post brings a tear to my eye....but probably because i'm extremely sleep-deprived and emotional. anyhow, well put. i am so grateful for what pj gave us over this past week. they far exceeded my very high expectations and how anyone can complain is beyond me.
the crowd sucked because the phillies got spanked by the yankees.
Beat me to it! No doubt this affected the fanbase. No doubt! I stopped going to baseball games on my birthday for exactly this reason -- sucks to watch your team lose and hard to be celebratory afterward!
But as I just posted in "defense of fans" -- we're at a shared-experience, a human phenomena that is the mass gathering, the mob. NOTICING this, watching the crowd for a few moments over a 2-3 hour concert is completely normal, commenting on it is completely legit. The fans, the crowd are PART of the show.

Agreed - the game had a lot to do with it, I think. Plus, the length of the setlist just tired people out. They came back fucking STRONG for Porch, Alive, and Free World, so they were still there at the end. Just not for stuff they didn't know.
Also - the OP is clearly a troll or an attention whore and we've all given him exactly what he wanted. That's the problem with this board - we all (myself included) bite every single time instead of ignoring what should be ignored.
I suggest you step out on your porch...run away my son...see it all...oh see the world // I wait on the porch...hoping someday I'll be let in
