My Weekly Rant - The Military

No this isn't a go at the poor sods that are facing Taliban mortars, bullets and roadside bombs. This is a go at the inbred assholes running the British military. I've no idea if this applies to the US military but perhaps it does.
There have been numerous news articles and discussions about the underfunding of our soldiers in conflict. It has also been stated that lives could have been saved if the correct equipment (body armour, vehicles etc) had been available. The Government come out with the same old chestnut the military in real terms blah, blah, blah....
Last week we attended my daughter's passing out parade. She had been training with the Territorial Army for the past 8 months. At the ceremony there they were in their ceremonial dress. The big chiefs with their elaborate uniforms and some with swords (very useful in today's combat zones). Plus of course the band with their highly polished instruments and yet more elaborate uniforms. I couldn't help think what a waste of fuckin' money. We seem to spend so much on the pomp and pageantry but send our young guys to the frontline without the correct body armour.
You only have to witness the trooping of the colour to know what I mean. We have the Guards in their bright red uniforms and bearskin hats. Apparently a bearskin hat is app £700 a time. Heaven knows how much the Household Cavalry outfits cost.
Just to seal my disapproval my daughter came home 2 days after the passing out to say she is going to France for 4 weeks of skiing with the TA. This is at the taxpayers expense. It's not training it's just learning to ski. Add this to my brother-in-law going on numerous courses with the army, one of which was various water sports and a lot of canoeing. Again this is really useful for when insurgents attack your base up river rowing like they were in the Olympic 8s.
My brother-in-law is a radiographer in a military hospital by the way. Probably wouldn't have a clue how to fire a gun but could teach you how to wind surf, canoe, ski etc, etc, etc.
It's no wonder our troops are ill equipped when it seems so much money is wasted on totally useless activities.
Rant over!

it can be like that here, too. when the wars started US troops were under equipped, no body armor and if you were lucky enough to get some a lot were inadequate, vehicles had inadequate protection....they even cut the family separation allowance and hazardous duty pay when Iraq first started! Rumsfeld, Sec of Defense at the time, said you go to war with the military you have, not the military you wish you had....meanwhile they gave no bid contracts to the company the VP ran until 2000 and even gave them bonuses after they were found to have committed fraud in their billing, fed our troops spoiled meat and untreated water (when part of their contract was to operate water treatment facilities), billing for workers that didn't even exist, double billing....
some parents and spouses had started buying body armor for their loved ones but then the government wouldn't allow it!
what are you but my reflection? who am i to judge or strike you down?
"I will promise you this, that if we have not gotten our troops out by the time I am president, it is the first thing I will do. I will get our troops home. We will bring an end to this war. You can take that to the bank." - Barack Obama
when you told me 'if you can't beat 'em, join 'em'
i was thinkin 'death before dishonor'
