So I was at the bar before the Widespread Panic concert in Albany. THis bartender who saw my Love Boat Captain hoodie, took notice of me and played a bunch of PJ at the bar. He was cool shit. He played Masters of War, U, Down, and Breath.....he was pretty cool.

Then I met a bunch of PJ fans when I was smoking a cig at the show.

By the way......Panic is sick!!!

I stayed away from them, thought they were another shitty fish type band(I refuse to use a PH before the ish)
Then I heard them on the radio, and wondered who the hell they were... they are not another crappy hippie jam band!

I've been seeing WSP since 1989 - they rock. I do miss Mikey though. Jimmy Herring is a fantastic musician, but I feel a real difference in the music now.
And those who were seen dancing were thought to be insane by those who could not hear the music.......Nietzsche
  • WSP was amazing from 90-2002. Since the death of Mikey they are not the same. Although they do remain a major touring force the new music is not that good and the "scene" is dead. But alot of the youngsters continue to hop on the train. I saw Panic about 121 times during the mid-late 90s and up til 2002. Now I will go once a year when they play my city, they seem more of a nostalgia act now.

It was fun, but has come and gone

I'm with you, Ashy. The scene is so different now. I've seen almost 90 Panic shows - we probably bumped into each other in the aisle somewhere. I keep to local shows now too.

I hate to be someone who is down on something new a band does because I hate when people speak of Pearl Jam in the past tense, but the sound has changed. I still enjoy seeing them but with Panic it wasn't just a great rock show, it was a soul stomping, roof spinning, mind blowing, all encompassing rock show. My first shows were the 02 Oak Mountain run and that first Bonnaroo so you can see how I got hooked. Most of mine were with George on lead and they were quite a few highlights. The Wiltern run in 06 was one of them. Seen them 50 times and now just sticking with Raleigh and Red Rocks.

People say Jimmy will get better and better but it isn't soaring leads that make Panic.

Glad you had a good show Oxxyy. For people interested in Widespread Panic check out panicstream.com. If you want to hear how mighty Panic can be, go to 2006 and pull up 11/4 from Austin. The Last Dance is the best live moment from 2006.
