Goosebumps

Ok folks; time to throw away those cynical lenses for a while.

This thread is a challenge to prove that Pearl Jam are not the only band who can induce the old goosebumps.

Please post a link to some music or music video which fulfils this brief! ;)

I'll start. First person to moan at me wins the wooden spoon (yes I have heard of the 'other music' room, where nobody goes lol)

I'll continue with your Live Aid theme with this gem. Most probably one of the most captivating performances ever known in the whole history of rock music. The crowd is enthralled in the moment. A historical moment.

  • Damn! I check out this post only to find it's about music. I was really hoping it was info about the latest novel from the highly-esteemed author, R.L. Stine. I suppose it would be asking too much, however, for Stine to match the literary masterpieces, The Horror at Camp Jellyjam and Say Cheese and Die--Again! Stine's prose is reminiscent of Tolstoy and the later musings of Kafka, yet he has the incredible ability to illuminate the human condition in a mere 92 pages of easily readable text--no small task, to be sure. Take that, James Joyce, you overindulgent fancy-boy!

I like your style Chazbukowski - Hijacking a thread about feelgood music to slip in your recommendations for contemporary horror. Anyone who can come up with the line 'Take that, James Joyce, you overindulgent fancy-boy!' is alright by me. How bout we widen the brief to include goosebumps from literature as well then? Personally I'm trying to get away from the horror currently, so go easy.....

I loved the previous vids. I can remember watching that Mercury performance live, staying up late as a kid with my Mum and brother I think. Agreed, it's pretty hard to argue with that!

This one I remember from around the same time, but I'm gonna skip back across the Atlantic, and lower the mood a little; hopefully someone will bring it back up.

Could I dedicate this one to skyeriverwinter and others here; sincerely.

Totally digging the Queen vibe....thanks for posting and bringing back so many memories :D

That Queen performance at Live Aid completely turned the band's fortunes around - in a word "legendary"!

The following year I went to see Queen headline at Wembley - what a gig that was to have as your first (aged 15 - where have all the years gone!!!) I will never forget Freddy emerging from a cloud of dry ice wearing that famous yellow leather jacket with Brian May's guitar crunching out the opening riff to One Vision.

Incredible. There must be enough material in that ten minutes to base a phd thesis on. Study in the cult of celebrity or summit. I'm not sure I could watch that all the way through again, painful; the video editor has a lot to answer for! Looked like the safest spot was on the stage..... at one point I thought they were going to lower a cripple to him through the roof.

Actually I only really appreciated Man in the Mirror as being any good when I heard it on my car radio a few days after his death. Michael certainly did know how to dance though!

I think the Eastern Europeans must have a slightly different take on these things. I believe it was the Scorpions' Winds of Change which in fact brought down the Berlin Wall - seriously!

At the risk of turning this into the Queen tribute thread - I can't believe you guys haven't posted this one yet. This has gotta be one of the greatest 5 minutes ever put on videotape - It's like he's been waiting for this moment his whole life. It has to be said that the last 2 minutes audience interaction even puts Eddie to shame. Treat 70,000 people like they're in your living room - take note budding rock stars!

Can anybody lead us away from Queen, and maybe even out of the 80s?! hehehe

Ok last Queen post (I promise!) ....

Here is my goosebump moment (around 1:15) - the opening track from the aforementioned show at Wembley Stadium in 1986.

    Like it!

I'm gonna break my own rules here. You might just recognise this guy. This is one of my favourite bits of semi-improv, spontaneous 'grab the mike and go for it' moments tho.

I remember watching this concert many time on VHS in the early 90s and thinking 'this is a breakthrough!'

Anyway, no doubt everyone here knows this already! lol; enjoy nevertheless

Hey I just realised it's the 5th November - bonfire night / guy fawkes night here in Blighty. (I'm revealing how non-existent my current social life is here :))

I think some Fireworks may be in order

What I love about this band is that the lead singer is patently tone deaf and can barely carry a note (harsh but almost fair....?). However, the songs are inspiring and moving largely due to the sentiment and meaning, rather than the performance.

This second one has reached me and helped me out as many times as any PJ number, as has the whole debut album....

The guitar solo is so powerful, it will blow you away (temporarily, I guess) but still, give it a listen.

Didn't they do that already? It's called Lost Dogs isn't it? Cheap at twice the price. Incredible how simple touch and words of friendship and solidarity can heal almost instantly. Round these parts the most contemporary translation of 'the original fire' is 'Have you got a light there mate?'. Fortunately I've not seen many burning crosses in Warwickshire of late, and I don't intend to start seeing them any time soon either.

    Thanks friends, keep it rolling!

We truly are a blessed bunch of fuckers, I genuinely feel sorry for non pearl-jam fans. My brother calls it 'razor-blade music', but I prefer to think of it as a gilette mach4 with a rather tough safety guard attached.

You were there that night! Asshole! lol I have the CD and DVD of that show - I freaking love it. My biggest musical regret will be the fact that I never got to see Queen perform. I could've gone to see Queen + Paul Rogers, but couldn't bring myself to do it... without Freddie it just isn't right.
And I listen for the voice inside my head... nothing. I'll do this one myself.

The jam gets going after the song section ends, but kinda meanders aimlessly for a few minutes. Then, some of the most beautiful music I have ever heard kicks in around the 7:30-8:00 mark and builds to...well....the perfect jam as far as I am concerned. Never fails to give me goosebumps. Truly one of their most epic moments.
