I'm not complaining about tic prices cause PJ is worth every penny, but seriously - how to afford 167 x 4 plus parking etc - only wish i could!!

Went to 10/28 show - amazing!! Feel like I am missing out mising all the others -especially Sat. - I have a special love for the spectrum.

Everyone going Fri & Sat have a blast for me!! :D

Just remember, one Pearl Jam concert today not attended (and money invested) is worth two Pearl Jam concerts in your future retirement!

We budgeted for it; it is probably cheaper and certainly far more enjoyable for all of us (the kids are going with us) than a trip to Disneyland would be.

Beyond that, we saved a bit of money by driving home late last night -- two nights at home rather than two nights in a hotel saves us some money. We also skip the beers, although my ten-year-old now has eaten his weight in Spectrum popcorn. :?

For many years, the cost of tickets plus childcare, parking, etc. meant that we could not go to any concerts. So I am thankful that we are able to do something as insane as go to four PJ concerts in five days and take the kids with us, and not have to worry about how we will pay the mortgage. On the other hand, right now my body is telling me I might be getting too old for this kind of behavior.

Its a good question ... personally speaking, I saved for this for a while, set a few dollars aside, then, since I usually go alone, I buy a pair for one night then trade my extra for a ticket for another show. I bought a pair of tenclub tickets for two nights in Philly, traded my extra for a ticket to the other two nights. Four nights of the greatest band in the world for about 300 bucks ain't bad in my book, but then as you say, there's 15 bucks a night to park, and 9 dollar beers at the Spectrum, not to mention gas and food, and a hotel if you're from out of town...it adds up for sure!
I was alone and far away when I heard the band start playing!

...I was always a DeadHead, but when I first heard Winston Rodney, aka the Burning Spear, sing, I became a SpearHead too!

Sad to say, some 10-clubers are the vultures at the merch booths and the sellers on ebay. I have overheard quite a few people say they finance their tours by buying and selling PJ merch

  • This might be called "ECO-Jamming", I save aluminum cans and take them to the local recycling center for $$$. I put that money in a seperate account for PJ tickets.

I'm going to 2, but I save my money - I don't spend it on a lot of unnecessary things like too many clothes and junk (we use $1 dishes from Ikea, because I don't care about stuff like that). Smaller car, smaller house (paid for), we live a frugal life so we can spend on what matters to us.

I knew there were going to be lots of great answers like this -- it's called "Priorities." Or that other incredible financial advice: "Don't Buy Shit You Can't Afford." Working hard, being a lil less materialistic, focusing on friends and families rather than "things", and recognizing that spending money on stuff you REALLY want to ... is worth every penny. After seeing them just once in 2006, I started setting funds aside just for PJ.

And F)$#% the whole moochin off parents shit -- oh, never mind, I might talk my 75-year ol' Dad into a Europe trip if EV tours there! "Oh Crap Dad, I thought Leo Kottke was playing, sorry, it's actually Eddie!"

I spent about $1,000 for the Chicago shows. Flying there, tix, hotel, rental, food, drinks etc. So I am missing out on the Philly shows because of that. I am holding out and saving for some northeast shows next year (hopefully). That way I won't waste money travelling and staying in a hotel.

definitely a good, steady, secure job helps.

I also dont have a mortgage, kids, etc. I also paid off all my student loans, auto loan, etc in the past few years.

and lastly, Im past the age where I go out to bars all the time dropping Benjamins.

5 years ago no way Id be able to afford 2 or 3 shows.
