Read today that Bleach was released 20 years ago .... I found that realisation scary .... where does time go .... I saw them in Edinburgh,Calton Studio's promoting Bleach ....

I haven't listened to it in years .... do other's still find it a significant/listenable album?

  • Whether or not it's "significant" is all a matter of taste. All I know is that there are too many rock fans and noob Nirvana fans that aren't as familiar with it as they should be.

hmmmm let me think about this... if nirvana had never made another album, bleach would have sunk to the bottom of the abyss. the majority of peeps only have bleach cause of nevermind. so i dont think its significent. it being 20 years old is a bit of a wow where did the time go moment though.

I didn't say it was better than In Utero, just that Bleach is my personal favourite :)

In Utero is right behind it. Then Incesticide...then Nevermind.

    yeah, you're right
I still can't decide Nevermind or In utero is better but I still prefer Incesticide to Bleach which is still good though

PS. do you still have that Cordrazine album? ;)

  • I don't listen to Nirvana that much these days, but when I do it's always Bleach that I come back to. I expect I'll pick the anniversary version up.

I know I fall into that camp. I never really thought much of it. It has a couple of good songs but overall it's a weak album.

if the reissue isnt out yet, the samples might be of the original album, not the remastered one. even so, i doubt you'd hear much difference from a low-bit streaming internet clip over computer speakers.

i dig bleach, but it's not a great album. it's clearly a band that hadn't fully developed yet. but it's definitely worth hearing for any nirvana fan and has some really incredible songs on there. i used to prefer incesticide, but recently started to prefer bleach. it's got more passion and energy. incesticide has some of their absolute best songs, but a lot of the stuff in the middle is uninteresting and uninspired rote covers. it's my least fav.

i like nevermind and in utero better than either of those though.

They should remix it, get Dave to re-do the drums.

    RE DO THIS ALBUM?!!!!!
I could only imagine the backlash that would get.
Is the re-release worth picking up?

I'd only change the drumming, nothing else.

  • I went and traded my original copy for store credit at my local shop, and went and picked up the new one. Love that album. Good live show too. Weird thing is, the studio album and the live album are on the same bloody disc, the live portion follows the studio portion. It's not two discs, which is what I would have preferred.

And catefrances, I'd have to agree that most peeps own it because of Nevermind (since that was most people's first taste of them), but I'd have to disagree that it would be lost in the abyss, as I personally love it on its own merit, not because it's Nirvana. And I think there are many others that would agree.

They hadn't yet fully developed their signature sound, and that's part of the inherent beauty in that record. You could hear what was to come.
