I need to be in a mosh pit for this band or in the first row, I am to crazy for some of these relaxed, iphone using concert posers....
Everyone has an opinion, but concerts were different in the early 90's and before!!!
What happened to some of you people? I know we all age, but I had to get em' going at times!!

get crazy!

I feel that mosh pit need to and have been able to express it at NIN shows. It's really a cool thing and actually kinda safe. I remember everytime someone fell down (not me of course, I'm so agile, not) people dancing would stop and pick them up and help them to the side. Of course there are sometimes tough guys that look to hurt people but overall it was a positive experience / expression. But PJ had a thing in Europe at one of those crazy rock festivals where some fans got killed, so they have been very protective of the security situation of their fans. I would imagine this is the main reason but I'm 36 and have a bad back so I'm not sure it's a good thing for me anymore. I don't bounce back from injuries like I did in 1991. But PJ still definitely evokes that emotion from you to this day.

  • I was unlucky to not have been able to see Pearl Jam in the '90s - even though they played minutes from my house in San Jose on two occasions.

But I have had the priviledge to attend four GA pearl jam shows in the past three years and they were some of the best. The run at the Bill Graham Civic was great but the pits there don't compare at all to the One at Outside Lands. It wasn't too crazy, but there was some definite increase in energy. The Even Flow from that show, from my standpoint right up front and being pushed around, was the best one i've seen. I had so much fun catching crowd surfers during that song. Then to close the set they rattled off save you, do the evolution and go....WOW...talk about a pit

    Good times

I think PJ should make the first 1/3 of the floor GA, and move the 2/3 of seats behind them closer to the stage (as a GA crowd is more compact). This would give the band something visually interesting to inspire them to play more wildly, and give the crowd in the GA area some exercise. :D

    Come to Australia

US shows are so reserved due to seats at the front. Seats should be banned at rock concerts. :geek:

Wear a Yankees jersey in the adjoining parking lot on 10/31. You'll get your fill of excitement really quick.

  • moshing is obnoxious and pretty much just a dangerous activity. i'm glad pj doesn't support it, it's totally unnecessary.

  • Why do they have seated shows in the US, is it the bands choice??

I have seen Pj numerous times in many different countries in Europe and the GA standing rocks!!!
Last year I travlled from London to New York as I always wanted to see the band at MSG, it was the first show I had been to with floored seating and having experienced the many GA shows in Europe, it just didn´t come close to how I would usually enjoy a PJ concert!!!
  • I don't care much for Moshing....but the GA shows I have been to have been the most fun (Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo)...people don't really mosh, which is nice, but its nice to be freed up to move and jump around around a little bit. Much more energy.

now what I fucking HATE are crowd surfers

I agree...I've been two 2 PJ GA shows and the energy far surpasses the normal shows with seats I have been to. Its like everyone's jumping up in unison..its great!

people really do need to leave their phones and cams at home.. its so annoying when you are trying to jump and be into the songs.. and you keep hitting someones arm cuz its stretching into your area to get one grainy wobbly shot of ed with a tambourine ..

  • I was in the front row at the roskilde show in 2000(holding on to the crowd fence saved me from serious injuries) and I am very thankful for PJ's safety thoughts. There is nothing cool with mosh pits. Let every one enjoy there concert as long as the not hurt anyone. My advice; Listen to the music, look at band and crowd at the concert. If you wanna run into people try shopping the days before christmas or American Football.

A Mosh Pit may seem harmless until something goes wrong. Keep that in mind when you enter one.

thank god pj doesn't do ga in the usa. i cant even think of the amount of fratheads who would join the 10c just to "mosh" and bumrush to the front. people(kids) don't even know how to "mosh" properly these days.

There's a big difference between a mosh pit full of idiots that throw themselves into everybody without giving a shit and a cool GA vibe where you are free from the restriction of seating. I've seen PJ seated 3 times and standing 9 times and standing beats sitting every time.

Even when it got a bit crazy at the O2, Ed stopped the show and asked us all to take 3 steps back before they carried on. Nothing will ever beat the vibe of a standing room PJ gig for me

  • What? Do they only pjMosh at festivals now?
Because I’ve seen them in 98, 00, 06, 08. There was no moshing.
What? People don’t mosh in the South anymore? lol

Its about freedom. If you have a chair that you absolutely are not allowed to move from for an entire show, it ruins it. 2003 and 2006 Aus tours were disappointing in this regard (but 1998 was awesome - GA), so I am truly happy for the upcoming GA shows.
  • Before this summer I had only seen Pearl Jam in reserved seating shows. I was lucky enough to see them in Berlin this summer, and I was really close to the front. That was the best atmosphere I've ever seen a show in, and I'd love to get more of it. It was exhausting, but totally worth it. I'm not saying that it should be like that all the time, but it's definitely something that should happen from time to time. I had been wanting to see a GA show like that for a long time, and now I'm hooked.
