I figured "The Longest Day" (Randall's Island, Fall '96 -- second show) was their longest show, no? Between the setlist, all the mosh-pit nonsense, etc . . .

But 3.5 hours is definitely a long time.

Ummmmm. Longest show was the question, last I checked two sets in one show is one show. So Mansfield was longest. :D

The advice we give to you is the advice we give to ourselves.. Let's PACE ourselves.. Its gonna be a long one!" EV speaks at the start of pre-set for 7/11/03 Mansfield final date of the EXPERIMENT.

At 45 songs, in both number of songs and length of the show, this is the longest Pearl Jam show ever. Total count for the three nights of the EXPERIMENT at Mansfield = 82 songs plus 11 covers.

I say they break-out hard songs right off the bat, then 2nd set maybe do an acoustic set or light set.... then 3rd set they rock harder... then 4th set they start covering the stage in gasoline.... mikey starts playing with matches until one of them starts the thing ablaze... and we're all dead by 4am. 8-)
ADD 5,200 to the post count you see, thank you. :)

  • I gotta say State College was. OMG what an awesome show that was!! I only decided to go to that one a few days before it happened.
I was also at Mansfield 3. A last min decision there too. After MSG 2 when word got out about an acoustic set my mind was made up lol.
I'm going on Friday and Saturday...I can't WAIT to see what PJ has in store for us.

And you will notice that I was at both, so I have no horse in this race. A band played between their sets, in Mansfield, so SC was the longest show ever. If they played at the same venue until 2 AM the night before, and a band played between them, would you count that as one show? Easy.... no.
  • State College it is... Once S-K played in Mansfield, the clock was re-set.

One you walked in with a ticket and didn't have to re-enter with a new one, you saw the longest Pearl Jam show ever.

And I wasn't at either one so you know I speak the truth :D
  • STATE COLLEGE--confirmed 3.5 hr's i was present....without question this was the longest show and i am sad to say i won't be able to make saturdays show which will probably beat the state college show in terms of length.

Mike is God....I had one of the shirts on at last nights show...

In 2003, me and 2 of my friends decided we wanted to do a small road trip and go see PJ in the US. We`re from Ottawa. So we tried `to get some tickets for the NYC or Philly show I think, but it sold out pretty quick, so we had to find another show that would fit our schedule. So we ended up deciding to go at the State College show. We knew we were going to Penn State U, but at the same time, we wanted to visit a bigger city than the 40,000 pop. State College. lol But we certainly didnt regret our decision since this was probbably the best PJ concert ever, and for sure the longest one also. What a coincidence.

So now I'm heading to Philly tomorrow for both show (just got my ticket today for Frida's show :D) and there`s rumors about Halloween night being the longest show ever. This would be another crazy coincidence if they do so! Fuckin'Eh!

Enjoy the show folks!!! Can't wait

i agree. if it was a two show night, they would had selled two different tickets.
no matter if S K played in between.

And over 2 years later the thread comes back!

    The original question was:
WITH ED SAYING THERE GONNA PLAY TILL 2AM SATURDAY I WAS WONDERING WHAT WAS THE LONGEST PJ SET EVER AND COULD THIS BE THE ONE TO BREAK THE RECORD?
What was the longest set ever… not the longest show. You get one ticket for a show, and it includes the opening acts. If you go to a festival, you buy one ticket and see multiple bands. Some festival of some sort was probably the longest PJ show ever. When PJ comes out on the stage at festival, they play a set that is made up of their main set and possibly encore sets. Smaller parts of the same set. The longest PJ set ever was State College, now it is the Spectrum. Mansfield comes in third. (Lucky me, I was at all 3!) Long doesn't necessarily mean better. The spectrum, while a great show and their longest ever, was the worst show of the 3. Mansfield had the best setlist. State college was the best all around concert.

At State College and at the Spectrum, there was no band playing between PJ appearances on stage. There were no gimmicks, no special guests... Just PJ continuously rocking for a very long time. While the Spectrum was longer than State College, the Spectrum felt forced and unpolished. State College just happened, the guys just kept playing becuase the crowd was amazing and they were having a blast.

I'm in the Boston 3 camp, okay so it was over 2 sets, but it was one ticket, one night. To me that's one show, I don't count that as 2 shows just because a band plays in between them!

youre right. thats the original question ... but the title of the thread says "LONGEST PEARL JAM SHOW EVER?"

    so, there are two answers.

I actually did visit this thread to get wich one was the best among the two or three that are on the list.
So i thank you for sharing your comments :D

I even on occasion interchange "set" and "show". You are correct, but I just figured that was a mistake. The thread is where the real meat is, where people put the thought. Other than the subject of the original post, they are largely ignored. The subject gets you to click on a thread, but for me becomes an afterthought as soon as I start reading the thread.

wait I'm confused.. forget about mansfield for a moment...the Spectrum show is now officially longer than State? and I'm guessing the last show at the Spectrum that we're talking about?
  • I remember there also was a long show in the 2009 tour. Is that correct? Which show was it?
