This, if it were to actually happen, would pretty much seal the deal on the feared traffic clusterfuck for this Saturday in South Philly. No subway means EVERYONE will have to drive in/out of the venue, as opposed to several thousand arriving on the Broad Street Line and the rest by automobile. Apparently Septa has a back-up plan of some sort to keep things running, but they aren't talking about what that plan is, so everyone is suspicious. So, it seems the point is if you are planning on taking the subway (not the Regional Rail, as they are a different union and will not be striking), you should think about a back-up plan for getting to/from the venue, particularly as we get close to the end of the week. I would keep checking the sites above, or any other Philly news outlet to see if the strike has actually started, in which case the subway option would be out.

that's the exact reason. they know it'll be a cluseter with everythign going on this weekend.
Yup- it is a good bargining chip for them.
Huge bargaining chip... completely deliberate decision, which makes it all the more annoying. They can really create a nice level of chaos for people when they put their minds to it...

I think it's safe to assume that if nothing is resolved beforehand, it will go into effect by Friday at the latest. If the SEPTA workers still feel their demands aren't met by that point they won't want to let that potential logjam pass them by. The only way I see them not going ahead with the strike is if the city truly has a viable alternative and makes that plan public.
Anyway.... have their been any developments on this?

This article made it seem like it would happen NEXT week at the earliest, and not this week.
