So about 2 years ago the videostore/postal outlet I work at got taken over by a very nice family. They are great bosses but don't really have a clue about the business... On the video side, the sorting system has sort of gone to shit and if you ask my boss if we have a certain movie he has NO idea ever, it could be the most common movie and unless its come out in the last couple months you have to explain to him very slowly. I see movies in the family section that shouldn't be in the family section. He looks at the covers and assumes their genre, it really bugs me for some reason!!

I told him we should pull aside a rack and make a halloween movie stand for the next week. So I made a sign with jackolanterns on it and everything because he grabbed a bunch of what he thought were horror/hallowen movies and put them on the shelf... when I went to put up the sign I noticed Jaws was in there... so I looked through the whole rack and was amazed at what he put out... I pulled about 15 movies out because I was so embarassed if anyone saw... among those was the count of monte cristo, the boys of baraka (it says on the back a COMING OF AGE STORY!!!), lady in the water, and what really takes the cake is the Celestine Prophecy... ahhhh!!!

Oh yah and he has never learned the post office side of things, and when he tries to help when I have a rush he more or less just gets in the way. For example, the other day someone was buying a stamp book and I had to go in the back to get something for it (the stamps come separately and I didn't know my bosses wife put them in the back so they wouldnt get stolen) I returned to the customer freaking out saying he wanted his money back (this thing has sat on the shelf for 4 years because it was from 2000, there was no way i was going to lose the opportunity to finally sell it!!). My boss had been peeling up the plastic stamp holder covers thinking the stamps were in there, pretty much ruining the page!! The guy ended up buying it because we had such a good discount on it but I had to explain to my boss how serious stamp collectors are and I felt bad because he seems so naive...

So you're basically like a mosquito at a nudist colony. The vast amount of opportunities and suggestions that you can give your boss in order to improve the store's operations are huge. If you work with him to help build the store to its potential and the results are effective with customer satisfaction and higher comp sales, it will turn out great for you.

If he would take my suggestions, yes.
I'm a uni student and have given up trying to put effort into the store. its a small store but has a lot of things going on in it. As it is, I run a multitude of operations in here, including sears catalogue orders, passport photos, u-haul reservations, canada post, dvd rental, photocopying and key cutting... I've tried giving him suggestions, but have given up.

I knew more than my boss. It was embarassing. At many meetings I had to cover for him without lettting it show that he didn't know things he should had. What happened is that he would send me to meetings to learn things that only directors needed to know. I worked for a non-profit. So, later, we'd be at some other meeting and he'd be asked the new stuff United way wanted us to do. He had no idea, 'cuz I am the one who went and learned it all. He was so stupid, he'd try to answer. This was stuff that I went to 3 weeks of training to learn.
Yet, I would somehow figure a way to say it for him without it being shown that I went and not him. i saved his ass too often and when I needed him to save mine one time, he left me hanging and I quit the job.
    Save room for dessert!
