  • I'm about halfway through his biography as we speak. Best stand up comedian ever, IMO. Didn't realise until reading the book that he was also a pretty good guitarist and used to stalk Eric Johnson in his early days. Yeah, he is sadly missed.
  • I have Tool to thank for getting me into his material.

which biography? i've been considering reading up on him, a fascinating man.

i have a great dvd with a bunch of his performances, and several of his cd's. oddly, the one album of his i really don't care for is the one that everyone else claims to like best and says is his masterpiece... rant in e-minor. it always seemed too unfocused and wandering for bill... and it just wasnt funny. the rage is palpable, which is interesting, but over an hour it wears thin without his usual good timing and strong punchlines.
  • I'm at a waffle house. I'm alone. I'm reading a book. Waitress comes over <smacking her gum> "whatchu readin' for?"

Not "what am I reading" but "what am I reading for?"

Well you stumped me. Why do I read..?

I guess I read for a lot of reasons. The main one being so I don't end up as a fucking Waffle House waitress.

    Miss you Bill..
  • I've read American Scream & Agent of Evolution, absolutely love Hicks! Still my favourite comedian ever, his stand up was pure dynamite.

Sorely missed voice of reason in these times, I wonder what he'd made of Bush Jnr making it to the White House?

    "Send in Marky Mark"

    "Release the fucking files Pilate"

"It's real accurate cause Oswald ain't there"

    "Here's Tom with the Weather"

"We looked at the receipt but as soon as the cheque clears we're going in"
  • its unfortunate that hacks like Denis O Leary and Ned Holnis and Louis CK and Dane Cook rip off Bill Hicks, but its also a sign that what Bill had to say, was important.

Bill is in the tradition of the great social critics of our time, those who use humor as a political weapon for social change. Dave Chappelle is the same way. Margaret Cho as well.

"Does 'Do Not Disturb' mean 'Knock Immediately' in Spanish? 'Do Not Disturb', pretty clear."

Woman from the audience: "Why'd you quit drugs?"

Bill: "Why? Because when you board an alien UFO, it get's hard to fucking top that."

    On the pornography industry.

"These guys are calling these girls models now, can you believe that? Models. Oh, excuse me miss model, um, how is jizzum being worn this year? Is it being worn on the back, or in the hair, or on the chin? Models, pfft. 'Here's Dusty sporting a 14" cock in her ass. Here comes Dallas with the penis ensemble."

The master of guffaw. We truly miss you Bill.

Denis Leary is a fuck for plaigarising Bill's work nearly to the tee. When confronted about it after leaving the stage, he walked away without saying a word.

Bill's say on the situation: "I have a scoop for you. I stole his (Leary's) act. I camouflaged it with punchlines, and to really throw people off, I did it before he did."

    Suck it, Leary.

I second this. Please provide the title...I'd love to read a bio on Bill.

  • There's American Scream which is a straight forward biography or Love All The People which is a collection of his stand up routines, writings etc...

"I smoke. If this bothers anyone, I suggest you look around at the world in which we live and shut your fuckin' mouth."

    GENIUS.

i LOVE Bill Hicks! i've read american scream, it was pretty good, the last chapter or 2 were really hard to read....

Bill Maher also stole 1 of his jokes, when his show on regular cable got canceled, he pretty much lifted the 'we shoot missiles from thousands of miles away, they blow themselves up, yeah, they're the cowards' thing from Bill.

i have that dvd with 3 performances and sane man as a bonus and that bio the trio channel did on him, which was pretty good, too and still watch them pretty often

By the way, if anyone here is in marketing or advertising...kill yourself. Thank you. Just planting seeds, planting seeds is all I'm doing. No joke here, really. Seriously, kill yourself, you have no rationalisation for what you do, you are Satan's little helpers. Kill yourself, kill yourself, kill yourself now. Now, back to the show. Seriously, I know the marketing people: 'There's gonna be a joke comin' up.' There's no fuckin' joke. Suck a tail pipe, hang yourself...borrow a pistol from an NRA buddy, do something...rid the world of your evil fuckin' presence.

“A lot of Christians wear crosses around their necks. You think when Jesus comes back he ever wants to see a fucking cross? It's like going up to Jackie Onassis wearing a rifle pendant.”

"See, I know you entertain some kind of eternal life fantasy because you've chosen not to smoke; let me be the first to pop that fucking bubble and send you hurtling back to reality – because you're dead too. And you know what doctors say: "Shit, if only you'd smoked, we'd have the technology to help you. It's you people dying from nothing who are screwed."

"I just have one of those faces. People come up to me and say, "What's wrong?" "Nothing." "Well, it takes more energy to frown than it does to smile." "Yeah, you know it takes more energy to point that out than it does to leave me alone?"

Beavis: All my friends are brown and red? What does that mean?
Butthead: It means that his friends are like turds and that they like suck.
Beavis: Heh heh. Oh yeah. Yeah! Get those spoons out of my face before I shove them up your butt!
    Butthead: Huh huh.

Three years in the making, AMERICAN: The Bill Hicks Story brings the tale of one of modern culture’s most iconic heroes to the big screen.

Much more than a comedian, Bill Hicks was and still is an inspiration to millions. His timeless comedy tackled the contradictions of America and modern life head on. But his unique gift was to tease apart the essence of religion, the dangers of unbridled government power and the double standards inherent in much of modern society, using nothing but his hilarious ideas and the uncompromising observational style that continues to resonate with successive generations.

Like many who have a strong sense of their place in history, Hicks left a large unseen legacy; his collection of video recordings and hundreds of photographs and these became the starting point for this feature-length animated documentary.
