I was wondering if anyone else has noticed that Ed's vocals on Backspacer and Into the Wild seem a lot more expressive compared to say binaural and riot act.

nope..is just a lot of different the way songs are.
"...Dimitri...He talks to me...'.."The Ghost of Greece..".
    "..That's One Happy Fuckin Ghost.."
“..That came up on the Pillow Case...This is for the Greek, With Our Apologies.....”

what I've always loved about Eds voice is how it just IS many different ways- with the songs-
as though his voice is a true instrument to blend with the music he hears.
For me Alone, a favorite, would be a good example- his voices moves thru and with that song.
On Backspacer I love how his voices changes during Gonna see my friend
its a screamy chorus then it lowers and sounds determined with a matter of fact quality.
By far the most creative beautiful voice God ever brought.
  • The only thing I would say is his voice sounds cleaner, like you can hear the words better but that's because I think the whole album has a cleaner sound...more upbeat...maybe because the Bush era is behind us and them!
