Even though he was a local, I only heard of him after his death. A real lose, for sure.

I remember seeing a photo of Elliot Smith in the SF weekly paper (must have been 6 years ago now). I was stoked because i thought it was a promo for a tour or new album or something. Then a read the bad news.

Elliot Smith really was one of the best. Check the live music archive at archive.org for tons of live shows (Elliot solo & with the band).

i wasn't a fan until after he'd died. a friend of mine was though and i remember finding out about his death and how upset she was. afterwards, i got hooked into his catalogue with the 'basement on a hill' album. he was truly a huge loss.

I had been a fan for quite a few years before his death, had seen him live a few times,a very humble man.

I heard about his death when at Flaming Lips concert,Wayne Coyne announced it and they played "Do You Realise" in memory of Elliott.

    Sadly missed

I think I'd been aware of the existence of Smith's music for a while now. but really ever listened to his stuff today for the first time.

and I have to say, it's great. really really good. really.

I had no idea it just was the anniversary of his death. me just getting into him would be creepy.. but I actually asked someone to recommend some new stuff for me and he said "Elliott Smith". :) and I'm glad he did.

    RIP mr Smith
