Has anyone seen this? It raised 22,000 complaints and, in my opinion, rightly so.

Been to this many PJ shows: Reading 2006 London 2007 Manchester & London 2009 Dublin, Belfast, London, Nijmegen & Berlin 2010 Manchester 1 & Manchester 2 2012...

... and I still think Drive-By Truckers are better.

I haven't read it but had read the response in The Guardian from Charlie Brooker.

I don't know if I want to read it 'cause I know it will just make me angry
So are we strangers now? Like rock and roll and the radio?

I couldn't see anything wrong with it until:

"After a night of clubbing, Cowles and Gately took a young Bulgarian man back to their apartment. It is not disrespectful to assume that a game of canasta with 25-year-old Georgi Dochev was not what was on the cards."

Then it went downhill. What do we expect from our newspapers, most of what they print is made up crap and supposition?

Tragic for a 33 year old to die in strange circumstances but he won't be the first and last. But as he was a pop star it becomes news worthy. Our press make me sick.

    Exactly.

I have several issues with the article:

~ "The sugar coating on this fatality is so saccharine-thick that it obscures whatever bitter truth lies beneath." - So what exactly IS the truth then? Jan Moir obviously knows but is willing to share...

~ "Healthy and fit 33-year-old men do not just climb into their pyjamas and go to sleep on the sofa, never to wake up again." - They do... daily around the world infact, it's just not reported in the news.

~ "Whatever the cause of death is, it is not, by any yardstick, a natural one." - It is. The Pathologist said so... unless, *gasp* Jan Moir is moonlighting a qualified Forensic Patholist who studied Gately's body too?! :o

~ "And I think if we are going to be honest, we would have to admit that the circumstances surrounding his death are more than a little sleazy.
After a night of clubbing, Cowles and Gately took a young Bulgarian man back to their apartment. It is not disrespectful to assume that a game of canasta with 25-year-old Georgi Dochev was not what was on the cards"
    - Since when has 3 consenting adults indulging in a bit of what they fancy been 'sleazy'? Heterosexual couples do it all the time... Unless Moir was there again and she knows EXACTLY what went on that night :o

~ "Gay activists are always calling for tolerance and understanding about same-sex relationships, arguing that they are just the same as heterosexual marriages. Not everyone, they say, is like George Michael.
Of course, in many cases this may be true. Yet the recent death of Kevin McGee, the former husband of Little Britain star Matt Lucas, and now the dubious events of Gately's last night raise troubling questions about what happened."
    - So now it's dangerous to have a civil partnership is it? Take note British public! If men get married to men it'll end in sleaze, death and all sorts of taboos!... Heaven forbid she should acknowledge that thousands of people in heterosexual relationships/marriages die daily, suspicious circumstances or not. Besides, what has Matt Lucas' ex-husband got to do with this?!

I find this article shocking. Just the way she claims that the series of events couldn't possibly be an accident as he was young, gay and having a bit of fun. How it made the final edit of that day's paper i'll never know.

His family must be suffering enough without this kind of negative press. :(

    No wonder 22,000 people complained....

  • Don't read the Daily Mail is my advice.

It's a wonder they don't provide free cross burning kits with the weekend editions...
It's gonna be a glorious day...

What an appalling article. His family and friends are broken enough without shit like this hitting the papers.

I saw a photo in the weekend paper of a close up of the rest of Boyzone carrying his coffin ... they were distraught. It broke my heart to see such a sad photo so publicy displayed.
