Anyone here an activist?

I was, and then took a 3 year break, and have been considering getting back to storming the barricades, but its hard to convince myself to get involved again, as it can be so draining and depressing especially if you internalize and really think about the issues facing our world today.

I found it hard, and its the reason I took the 3 year break, was because, if I picked up a newspaper, and it said "3 soldiers killed in Iraq today", I would have a very hard time dealing with it. It would ruin my entire day, and physically and emotionally it took a large toll on me.

    there are many forms of activism - they don't necessarily have to involve protests and acts of civil disobedience ... here are some things i do to keep "active":

    * write letters to political representatives and anyone affiliated with the cause you believe in
    * keep up to date on events
    * attend fundraisers or volunteer at fundraisers
    * act with your dollar - do not spend any money or boycott companies that go against your beliefs
    * vote accordingly

    i was involved with amnesty international for a number of years, they got a bunch of my money. but what i felt better about doing was writing the letters to some of the political prisoners htey were trying to free. and reading their responses...just to know that they hadn't been forgotten and and that they still had reason to hope was a very powerful thing.
