I've been googling this and not really getting very far, but seem to come accross some real looney sights,
which may even say something about me!

But still, I would like to know peoples experiences and possible answers, if you wouldn't mind sharing. Thanks.

I occasionally suffered from sleep paralysis (I think there has been a thread on that here before) ... have no idea what that has to do with astral travel though :P

    EDIT: There you go viewtopic.php?f=14&t=97494&hilit=sleep+paralysis
So are we strangers now? Like rock and roll and the radio?

I wish I could control astral travel. I read books on it, but just didn't dedicate the time to it. Supposedly a string is attached to your body, and your soul, and you can fly all over the place when you are asleep. If you wake up, and it feels like someone is on your chest, then you haven't fully gone back into your body. I want to fly to warm desert places, and just feel my lungs expanding with health.

What's interesting, is that I was reading about astral travel, and someone else knew some psychological cause for the person*sitting*on*your*chest feeling, and it was kindof funny. Two totally different theories for the same action. I guess that's just life as it is, eh?

Yep. That is EVERYTHING I am talking about, I did not read the whole Thread but will tomorrow. Thanks.

I have only deliberately Astral traveled a few times years ago and stopped trying because the vibrating I get in my head is so overwhelming and has a CREEPY feel to it. I have been told just to ask 'the Light' to tone it down, and go through it and enjoy.

I do not like Sleep Paralysis. I have been told it is a Hormone problem associated with sleeping on your back.
And when I get it, I am also just a buzz away from having that horrible vibration in my head.

I had sleep paralysis years ago with the, Full On Old Hag , so severe I had the snarly dog crouch on my chest.
I was told ' don't open your eyes'..
    That was years ago.
    Things went nice and quiet-ish.

Now I'm having it more frequently, most times without the Old Hag, Thank God, Focus on wriggling my toes and once they start moving, the instant hold washes off.

when i get sleep paralysis i get it pretty bad. seems like it takes a full minute or two to be able to move or open my eyes.

it used to scare the shit outta me when i was younger.

i get it about once every couple of months, no where near as often as i used to get it, but its worse now when i do get it.

    sucks.
    Peace, Love.

That describes my experience to a "T". Mostly happened to me if I was trying to take a nap during the day.

I basically won't go to sleep anymore without an alarm set.

  • i don't get sleep paralysis, but sometimes i physically can't get up cos i'm all backspaced out and stuck there with my headphones on and eyes shut - is that similar?

Yea, no, um.............sort of. ( who would want to get up if they are doing that? )
I must have jinxed myself cause I had another one today, I'ts getting more frequent.

    After reading your responses........
This morning I woke really tired, and couldn't wait to give the youngsters lunch and put them down for a nap so I could have one.
I read here someone uses thier alarm, so I set it before I lay down.
It took a while for me to drift off, and I know I was asleep because I remember dreaming.
And there I was again, struggling to wake up, but thankfully no Hag.
    I wriggled my toes- nothing.
I tried relaxing, tried drifting back off to sleep- didn't work.
Today was an Educated realisation of what was going on so I did not panic.
After all my trying, it was the alarm that release the hold, it started going off and I came around.
( Love Boat Captain on my mobile, heehee)
So now my question is how did 'outside' interference solve the problem? ( or was it just PJ to the rescue  )
I also read here someone saying daytime naps.
I thought Yea, they seem to happen to me if I have a Daytime sleep.
But is that because I don't notice at night because I'm in a deeper sleep?

I also want to ask about Incubus, and I'm not talking about the band...Anyone??

Ah, I didn't realize this was a consortium.

I have had S.A. incidents maybe a dozen times in my life. As stated above, I usually get them when I am taking a nap during the day, but I have had several nighttime episodes. The incidents are along the lines of:
I am on the sofa, think I hear someone coming up the stairs, then I 'realize' it is not who I think it is and I panic.
Someone whispers my name and I vaguely see a shadow in the corner of the room but cannot make out what is going on...and the panic increases
I think I am out of the episode and "try" to look at my phone which is on the sofa table, but I cannot open my eyes enough to see the phone...interestingly enough this happened when I was trying to take a short nap and knew I was sleeping past the allotted time

I have gotten better at realizing I am in the middle of an episode. once I tell myself what is going on, I just have to wait for my body to catch up with my mind...and that can take what seems to be a very long time. But at that point, the panic part is over (however, it has returned a few times). I've tried the whole "try and wiggle a toe or finger" with minimal success.

Thankyou for sharing. I read that when you sleep your brain or a gland releases endorphins that stops you from physicaly acting out your dreams, which is good, but sometimes you awake and the endorphins are still doing thier job.
    This makes sense.
But it does not explain the overwhelming feeling that someone else is in your home, and they are not friendly.
It does not explain the old hag or incubus.

sometimes when i break out of the paralysis its such a violent shock that it feels like i got kicked in the chest or thrown down on my back. it's so startling that i freak and think someone had to have done it and is in my room. i'll throw the lights on and settle down..sucks

I have never been jolted out of it, it just sort of washes off. Does the feeling that someone else is with you happen all the time or just some?
What you describe sounds alot like returning suddenly from an OBE. Have/do you Astral Travel?
