I have Rose Bowl tix and am excited.....but not nearly as excited as I was for the 4 PJ shows I saw the other week (3 in LA and SD). From what I've read, the U2 setlist is so cookie-cutter and predictable on this tour. No diversity whatsoever. There is only one older album gem that they're playing on this tour (I won't ruin the surprise)....the rest of the show is new songs and the hits. It's a shame if you ask me. How PJ changes their setlist dramatically every night makes me appreciate them even more.
Regardless, I am looking forward to the U2 show this weekend. I'm sure it will be fantastic.....they're filming the entire show for a live DVD and are also going to webcast it live on YouTube....pretty cool.Irvine Meadows (Lollapalooza) - Sep 11, 1992, Irvine Meadows (Lollapalooza) - Sep 12, 1992, Concert For Artist's Rights (EV, Mike Ness, Beck) - Wiltern Theater - Feb. 26, 2002, Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre Irvine - Jun 02, 2003, The Forum - Jul 09, 2006, The Forum - Jul 10, 2006, Gibson Amphitheater - Sep 30, 2009, Gibson Amphitheater - Oct 01, 2009, Gibson Amphitheater - Oct 07, 2009, Viejas Arena - Oct 09, 2009, EV solo - Wiltern Theater - July, 8, 2011, Viejas Arena - Nov 21, 2013, Los Angeles Sports Arena - Nov 23, 2013, Temple Of The Dog - The Forum - Nov 14, 20160 -

I am a long time U2 fan, 15 shows since 87, this show was great, but I was disappointed with the set list. I like the new stuff , thats not the problem, the lack of diversity from show to show is disappointing and some of the old stuff they are playing needs to be retired for awhile.
Every band needs to take a lesson from PJ on set lists.0 -
If anyone would like to sell their U2 tickets for this sunday please let me know. I've never been to a show at the Rose Bowl, and I live like 2 miles from there. I doubt it will be as good as San Diego or LA1 or LA4 but why not check out U2.0

Saw them in Raleigh a couple of weeks ago. They aren't PJ, but they put on quite a spectacle. Sound quality is fantastic and "The Claw" is something to behold (if not a little distracting from the actual music). Muse opened and they were great.
Wish the show Sunday was an East Coast one so I cold watch the web cast. 11:30 will be too late though.Brian0 -
I saw them 8 days after ACL at the New Cowboys Stadium. I have been a fan of theirs since 87. Seen tours from 97 till now. 2001 shows were their defining moment, especially the post-9/11 shows. But this tour is corporate and choreographed and isn't as inspiring and the lack the connection with the fans (except those few thousand who wait all day in line for a shot at those close floor seats). But worth seeing, especially if you dig all the bells and whistles from a stadium show. I am sure the Rose Bowl show will be better than the standard setlist since it is being filmed for a DVD; they always perform better for those. I mean, there is still something magical about singing along to 'Where the Streets Have No Name' with 70,000 like was the case here in Dallas. So, yeah, you should get up for it.

what a great show! i was hesitant because of a stadium show, but the claw/spaceship/LAX spider really helps make the show more intimate...the band sounded great although i think the encore should be one/amazing grace/streets...ultraviolet/with/moment is great but not rocking enough to finish the show...definitely will see them next year!

I seen some footage of the gig on the local news....it has always been difficult for me to enjoy a live show when the band members are so far away from eachother!0

U2 was pretty epic last night. I loved the show. It was the biggest concert I've ever attended....but I'd much rather see a band in a much smaller setting.....but I'll take what is offered. You never know how much longer these bands are going to be around for. After leaving the clusterfuck Rose Bowl last night it made appreciate PJ's decision even more to play 4 nights at the much smaller and intimate Gibson Ampitheatre (thank you PJ!!!!) As someone mentioned here earlier, PJ and U2 shows are two completely different experiences. It's really too hard to compare the two. On one hand you have PJ who bring it every night, change the setlists up every night which makes it incredibly exciting for all of the fans, and have a pretty basic show when it comes to lighting and what not (not that I really give a shit about a stage show....I'm there for the music). U2 on the other hand bring it every night, rarely change the setlist up every night (which is a shame), and have this over-the-top and mind blowing stage show which is so silly, ridiculous, and great all at the same time. Opinions are divided on U2's stage depending on who you ask....some say the stage takes away the essence of the music....others will say it enhances it. I say....who gives a shit. Have a great time and be thankful that we have both PJ and U2's music to listen to and see live in this generation. I got to see PJ and U2 shows this month......it really doesn't get much better than that. Two of the best bands around, hands down. We're lucky.Irvine Meadows (Lollapalooza) - Sep 11, 1992, Irvine Meadows (Lollapalooza) - Sep 12, 1992, Concert For Artist's Rights (EV, Mike Ness, Beck) - Wiltern Theater - Feb. 26, 2002, Verizon Wireless Amphitheatre Irvine - Jun 02, 2003, The Forum - Jul 09, 2006, The Forum - Jul 10, 2006, Gibson Amphitheater - Sep 30, 2009, Gibson Amphitheater - Oct 01, 2009, Gibson Amphitheater - Oct 07, 2009, Viejas Arena - Oct 09, 2009, EV solo - Wiltern Theater - July, 8, 2011, Viejas Arena - Nov 21, 2013, Los Angeles Sports Arena - Nov 23, 2013, Temple Of The Dog - The Forum - Nov 14, 20160

U2 to release DVD of last year's Rose Bowl performance
March 23, 2010 | 2:20 pm
U2 This just in from U2 headquarters: The Irish band will release a DVD of last year's massive Rose Bowl concert sometime in 2010, according to U2's website. Details remain foggy, but apparently they want the info out immediately, before they finalize the decisions: "The band are still working on the content of the DVD," reads a note on their site, before asking fans to register to get the latest updates.
The news isn't a big surprise, considering the band partnered with YouTube to stream the concert live.
Do you need the DVD? Times pop critic Ann Powers, in her review of the show, suggests maybe yes:
[A]fter three decades as an important band, U2 is long past simple uplift. Its music is as much about emotional entanglement (as in "Ultraviolet" on Sunday) and disorientation ("Vertigo"). Ultimately, it is a meditation on space: the majestic natural landscapes that the Edge's guitar playing often describes; the crowded dance floors or train platforms Clayton and Mullen's rhythms evoke; the inches between a whispering mouth and a lover's ear, or the infinite journey of a prayer hurled into the air.
The Space Station allows U2 to make those musical and lyrical preoccupations physical in a new way. At the Rose Bowl, it created a new experience even for the most jaded concertgoer. U2 concerts have often included moments in which raised voices build goodwill, or shaking hips stimulate joy. But for the first time, perhaps, this band's noise resulted in a kind of silence and stillness -- not a literal one, but the rapture that comes when nearly 100,000 people relax together, as if held within a gentle, open hand.
Here's the set list of the show:
"Breathe"
"Get on Your Boots"
"Magnificent"
"Mysterious Ways"
"Beautiful Day"
"I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For," with a coda of "Stand by Me"
"Stuck in a Moment"
"No Line on the Horizon"
"Elevation"
"In a Little While"
"Unknown Caller"
"Until the End of the World"
"The Unforgettable Fire"
"City of Blinding Lights"
"Vertigo"
"I’ll Go Crazy if I Don’t Go Crazy Tonight"
"Sunday Bloody Sunday"
"MLK"
"Walk On"
"One"
"Amazing Grace"
"Where the Streets Have No Name"
"Ultraviolet (Light My Way)"
"With or Without You"
"Moment of Surrender"
Pop & Hiss will keep you posted on details.
