Have You Ever Been Left Something and Never Knew It's Value?

I was just wondering if someone has ever left or give you something and you didn't realize it's value?

Well My former boss a mega wealthy man, who died back in April left me a watch yesterday. It's a very heavy watch (if I threw and it hit you it could kill). I told my sister about it and then she asked what's the name of the watch I told her I don't know there's no name on it. She told turn it over and look, it read Patek Philippe, Geneve Swiss Made then some serial numbers(5712R). She told me to look it up on the internet to see it's value after 5 minutes of searching I came across the same watch except the name is not on the face.

My jaw dropped when I saw the price they were selling this watch that was just about the same thing-
$35,200. Only someone who knows these kinds of watches would know something like this, WOW!

I would NEVER ever spend this kind of money on a fricking watch. I give thanks just the same.

Peace

    Congrats, and condolences.

I know little about watches, but enough to know that your Patek Philippe is way more expensive than my rolex!
ADD 5,200 to the post count you see, thank you. :)

well those are probably the most expensive and most collectible non-jeweled watches on the planet

    he must have liked you

keep that in a safe place and get it insured
you might want to take it a dealer and get it appraised and authenticated
also, you may need to buy one of those moving cases if its a mechanical watch

    talk to an expert

funny how you say keep it in a safe place, I left it on top of my desk at home. I'll get appraised and find a safe place to keep it. I kept him health and alive for almost 4 years. He left me in his will but it's been some sort of secret how much money or what he specifically wanted to leave me. I'll be happy with nothing he was very generous over the years.

I have been left many things that I know are valuable, but I don't know just HOW valuable.
My father was born in 1917 and I have lots of things his mother passed down to my mom. They were originally my gramma's mom's stuff.
I also have lots of tea cups and saucers that were passed down from about 3 or more generations, on my bf's side.
I guess I am just going to keep them aand let my kids figure out how rare and/or expensive they are.
The stuff that was passed dowm thru my gramma has to be from the early 1800's.
I also have 2 heidelberg ink presses from about 100 years ago or more. I have all the type that goes with it too. I think they belong in a museum.
    Save room for dessert!
