Just recently watched the film into the wild(i'm a bit slow sometimes). anyway, after watching the film and listing to backspacer, i thought the song The End would fit perfectly into the last scenes of the movie.

this is not important i know, just wanted to share my thoughts.

Yeah, I could see that but I think The End is more suited for a partner to partner perspective and not a brother to sister, I say that that because I read that Ed wrote Guaranteed for McCandless' sister. I was a little surprised to hear Hard Sun at the end and not Guaranteed but I guess it works as well as anything, more uplifting than sad which is probably what they were going for.

The End has got to be one of the greatest songs... really deep, really sad... but truly amazing... my 7 year old was sitting on my bed last nite listening to it on my ipod and singing it out loud...

  • the end of that movie angered me. it was supposed to be a happy ending, not a real ending. ;)

i'm not sure on what i think, in one hand its a good ending, because it completes the story, but on the other hand, for those who didn't know the truth, it would've been kinda cool to leave the ending open..

  • I know exactly what you mean. The gasp for breath at the end of the song and in the end of the movie would work nice. Hard sun is also a perfect fit tho. I get goosebumps every time i see that part

yeah, sometimes I wondering what the timing was when Ed wrote all of these lyrics, like was the end really within the last 18 months, or did it start before that, say when he was thinking about ITW.
  • I suspect Just Breathe and The End were written during the ITW phase and he saved a couple of the best tunes for the PJ record....
