Yeah, Avocado is a fuckin great album. Only it's not as good as Backspacer. Kudos to Pearl Jam for moving forward and not back. Hopefully the next one kills Backspacer. We can hope, can't we?

Yeah I agree with cropduster, Backspacer is much better in my opinion. It probably has three songs that I would put in my top ten where as Avocado maybe has 1.

It took me a try or two but this album grows on you!! Blast it in your car and it gets flowing in your blood stream. I love it. I just hope "The End" doesn't signify any real end. Thoughts??
  • I love God's Dice! Man, there has been some hard hitting on Binaural lately. What gives? It is what it is, I guess. Is this what we can expect 5 to 10 years from now for current Pearl Jam albums? Maybe I'm just crazy...(be gentle!)

it took about a week of solid playing for me to really absorb Backspacer.... but now it's up there as one of my faves... love love love it!!

A salute to the past and a nod to the future... awesome stuff!

  • Although, Backspacer does have Unthought Known which is better then any song on Avo.

You have had a such a hard on for Avocado being better than Backspacer it's silly! Who cares...like what you like and don't worry about who agrees with you.

I'm all for a good argument but jeez...your'e really pushing this one too hard. I love both of these albums...but it's Backspacer by a nod for me.

It's a breath of fresh air for PJ.

i've always thought that the first half of Avocado is pretty good, and the second half is an embarrassing adult contemporary mess. nothing has changed.

    Backspacer is pretty consistent throughout.

Honestly.....And this is just my opinion. Backspacer is a great album but i feel like i've absorbed all i can from it. I at the very least, like every song on it. But by the time i got it in my hands i had heard more than half of the album just with conan, the fixer single, Ed's solo shows and all the ringtone clips. After a few weeks , i feel i've gotten everything i can from this album. And i know it may be crazy talk ......but i want another album already. I don't feel like i got a whole album of material to keep me going for a while. 37 mins is just not enough. it feels like a short E.P. between albums. All other albums from Ten to S/T have never given me that feeling. When i put backspacer on , it feels like it's done before it started. I do enjoy it .....but it just doesn't feel like an album.

From reading posts in here and in other areas ,mainly the ones where people are saying pj not going to be back for a bit and stone ed hate each other..
i get a feeling the next album is not to far away as its already 90% made so 2010,this is why backspacer is shorter then most. stone might go do temple of dogs tour with matt.ed does solo again..rest of the boys do the family stuff for a year or two.etc. but i doubt we will get a pj tour next year..but what do we know, its down to the boys..as long as they stay a band i dont care if its 5 years to the next album.umm

where did you hear stone and ed hate each other? sounds bogus to me.

and stone and matt doing a temple of dogs tour while the rest of the boys do family stuff? temple of the dog was basically the pearl jam line-up as it is now but with chris cornell on vocals!
