I know there's not a huge hiphop fan base here but this is for those who are.

Anyone heard Jay's BP3? It's nowhere near BP1 or BP2 but it's still damn good. It's crazy that he can still spit fire like he used 15 years later.

I'm not gonna go through the whole album, I just wanted to see other peoples reaction.

Personally, I think this album is still helping hiphop for a come back. Between this album, Carter 3 (Wayne), Paper Trails (TI), Relapse (Eminem), and So Far Gone (Drake) hip-hop has been nice lately.

For anyone who hasn't heard it listen to On To The Next One, one of the best beats I've heard in a while. And Empire State of Mind makes me damn proud to be from the N-Y-C

Well as a JayZ fan I didn't care for it either but it's still better than 90% of the other rap shit thats out there, and he's still rhyming like its 95.

love blueprint 3. few dead spots on it but the more you listen to it the more it becomes this bigger than just one song. i think bp3 is better as a whole than just one of its songs.

yeah, it wasn't bad. i was just underwhelmed. it seems to suffer from the same problem i see everywhere in hip hop today... trying to be everything to everyone. bloated running time/tracklisting, too much filler, etc. Illmatic was 10 songs and 40 minutes. Doggystyle wasn't a whole lot longer. ditto for 36 chambers. now you can't buy a rap album without 19 tracks and 78 minutes of music and there's usually just not enough talent to sustain it. jay comes closer than most, but i just don't see myself ever reaching for bp3 over bp, reasonable doubt, or even the black album.

i actually really like bp3 but i can't compare it to teh original but i never compare 1 record from 1 band to another record from the same band.
  • i'm going to see jay up in seattle. can't wait. if anyone is interested check out the guy who is opening for him named Wale. the mix tape about nothing (yes, he sampled seinfeld) and 100 miles & running are incredible.

resurecting this thread to ask a question:

what are jay-z's best albums? i downloaded blueprint 3 last week and have been really digging almost all of it.

what else do you all recommend next?

the original blueprint is excellent. so are reasonable doubt and the black album. many of his other albums are pretty inconsistent though. hard knock life, vol 2 probably has a lot of familiar songs on it though.

    What this guy said.

Top 3 in order in my opinion...
