Message in a Bottle: Cigna Won't Treat Brain Tumor

For two years, CIGNA has denied Dawn Smith treatment for her brain tumor. She's had enough, so she's heading to Philadelphia to confront CIGNA's CEO in person.

Dawn wants to make sure that CIGNA can't ignore her when she gets there, so she's been collecting hundreds of pill bottles with messages of support along the way.

But MoveOn is taking it up a notch. They're collecting thousands of statements of support online, putting them in pill bottles, and delivering them to Philadelphia in time for Dawn's big arrival. I just sent one in and it's being printed now. Will you join me in standing with Dawn at the link below?

Thanks!

I'm going to do this (at home, not while at work :D ). CIGNA can be real choosy about what they decide deserves medical care, even when the person in question is fully "covered."

    Thank you for posting.

I ended up with a lifelong disability. I paid into a plan my entire life for long-term disability. When I got sick, they wouldn't pay. It wasn't a doctor deciding this it was an R.N. who worked for them and never met me. I asked this ass when he got the right to practice medicine. He and I had several phone calls and fights, but I never got my disability payments. The government pays me disability 'cuz I really have a fricking disability in which I cannot work.
My niece went thru this and after she died they paid.
I applaud this person to go confront them. No person in some office without credentials should make these decisions.

Well, as someone who works in cancer research...this thing happens all the time!!

It's only news because of the times...

I can say that I have met and watched an incredible amount of people die from cancer because insurance did a side-step on their treatment and denied coverage.

    It's really an eye opener.

I'm sorry HeatherJ43, it sounds like the crisis is affecting so many people like yourself.

Oh, regarding Cigna, they never would acknowledge any of the pill bottles they tried to deliver.

That happened 10 years ago, there was no crisis, nor excuse. I have been told lots of times I should fight it now, but that would mess up my government disbaility that takes 2 1/2 years to get. So, I had to suck it up.

I had the same "conversations" several times. I have a chronic illness, and was unable to work.

Someone sitting in a cubicle decided my condition was not serious enough to warrant disability pay.

    Fuckers
