Spitting...

I noticed Ed usually tends to spit in Stone's direction - and from where I was sitting it looked like it came pretty close to hitting him a couple times. So I guess this question's a two parter:

A. do you think Stone wishes he would spit to the right every now and then, or is it too risky with Jeff right there and McCready's stealthy unpredictableness as to where he'll be next?

B. has anyone ever seen Ed's spit up close? Does it glow like Kryptonite or is it like normal human saliva?

Discuss.

Funniest post in a long time

From the amount of wine Ed drinks, I would definitely think his spit has a reddish touch. As far as the spitting direction is concerned, I think Stone is just way too cool to give a shit. And as you said, I would never dare spitting in Mike's direction, I would be much too afraid he might shred me to pieces in Even Flow solo style ;) Let alone Matt, the drumstick carnage would be ugly; good thing that spitting backwards is so hard to do

If he spits to his right he risks Mike and Jeff slipping on loogies and wiping out. The chances of Stone slipping while doing the duck-walk are slim so that's why he spits in Stone's direction. It's really a matter of safety.

In one restaurant make-over show a chef got pissed off and quit. Gordon went after him and screamed, "GET YOUR F-ing ASS BACK HERE!!!" The chef kept walking and Gordon cooed, "Yes?"

But make no mistake, WNS, Gordon Ramsey ain't no Eddie Vedder. Gordon probably went to a PJ concert, heard Eddie say "YES?" and has been copying him ever since.

I've sorta been meaning to ask, seriously why does Ed spit so much during the show anyway? is it really that necessary?

I sat front and center in SD. I think I got a little spittle on me. I was ok with it but he does hock some monster loogies.

And yes.... each one was glowing. And the bit that hit me burned a hole through my shirt.

I think next time I will bring a petrie dish and catch some of that shimmering bodily fluid and grow some little EV clones in my la-bor-a-tory. Those little buggers will sell for a pretty penny on Ebay. And yes they WILL dance with a cane to "Puttin On The Ritz"!

    :o Did I just say that??? :?

His phasing and strain he puts on his chords causes a lot of mucus buildup, he has to get rid of it via spitting to keep the airflow going while singing. Otherwise the mucus will cut his range and make it choppier.

I haven't laughed or snorted so much in a long time... friggin' hilarious!

Is snorting the opposite of spitting?

Ed spitting is like Michael Jordan sticking his tongue out when he is about to make a spectacular play. It might be considered a little rude normally, but because what they are about to do is so amazing, not many people are brave enough to ask the question of "why?".

On the Touring Band DVD Ed spits clearly to his right during "Go", almost appearing to hit Mike...I have studied this sequence for hours and only now reveal my findings...

To those that have it, there is a great story regarding spitting that ed tells from mansfield I in 2003...

after "grievance," ed moves a flag because he did not want the crowd to think he was spitting on the it. he then proceeds to tell a hysterical joke involving celine dion, sony, spitting, and ...uh...well i'll let you all track it down and figure it out :o

    cheers.

  • I think Ed has decided that Stone's direction is the safest choice since Stone rarely moves outside a 2 square foot box at any given show. Ed knows he won't hit Stone and that Stone won't step in it and slip.

Why the fuck am I replying to this thread? Fuck it...I'm hitting submit.

p.s.- if you had the chance to ask Ed one question would that be the one? I'm gonna start that thread (although I'm sure it's been done before...just too lazy to search it).

wow, it's like the Zapruder film... wasn't there a Seinfeld episode about this??

I think he spits to the left because he's righthanded. Righties tend to look at the left side as a waste. That's why we toss cans and bottles out of our driver's side windows.
